Checking in to see from others if now is a good time to hit the docks in the Seattle (area 10) and Tacoma (area 11) for Salmon while crabbing? This is my first season salt water fishing and crabbing.

I am such a non-fan of the docks for salmon fishing. I think it is a so much more a pleasure to fish from shore for a resident silver. That being said, I know you asked about time of year, I'm sorry I cannot remember what time of year is more productive for this, maybe somebody else will chime in. I am pretty certain that it's King fishing in more like August, almost certain. Obviously you'l have to wait until 2013 for Pinks. But I think the resident silvers were here at this time last few years I fished the beach. If you're in Seattle, try Lincoln Park, West Seattle. I live at Carkeek and fish there. As well as Richmond beach, Golden Gardens, and Meadowdale beach, just N. of Edmonds. It is a peaceful persuit, but not an abundant catching situation. Let us know what you do.
Also if you go over to Alki beach there are a couple of docks over there that might be less crowded.

Dock fishing for Salmon unless its a Pink yr is gonna be tough IMO.. and Kings run deep from what i know, not that close to shore.
better off fishing some shore for silvers.. I've had luck around the Mukilteo ferry area and one time a few years back at Carkeek i caught a silver with a spinner. i don't go south of Seattle so i can't speak to those docks or shore really... the silver run for ocean incoming wont pick up until mid august i think..

The dock by salty's is going to be your best chance at silvers or kings. They run with in casting distance of the dock. The best part is no Elliot Bay opening except for the dock.

Actually right now if you want to try in area 11 you can at redondo, try and go tuesday or wednesday, there wont be nearly amount of people since crabbing isnt open. i normally see about 3 or 4 on off days. But like you said the docks are loaded when crabbing is open.

I've been at pt. defiance nearly every morning and have only seen bottom fish caught lately. I've seen several nice kings over 20lbs caught off the dock in the past, a pair a couple minutes apart once. most were of buzzbombs though a guy got a nice one on a bottom fish rig and nightcrawlers.
