So.... when you get a skunk hiding out under your shed... do you jump up and down :bounce: on the shed floor to scare the skunk out???? ](*,)

Bait just outside the building one night there out as soon as its dark:batman: .

You could trap it and have a custom line of new fishing body Sprays for poles:-# :-" #-o :cyclopsan

It would sell ((( THE SKUNK MASTERS!)):-$

How to get rid of a skunk that's moved in:

Be cautious when around skunks - they could have rabies. If you see one acting strangely, disoriented, foaming at the mouth or overly aggressive - get away from it and call animal control. If someone gets bitten by a skunk, do your absolute best to capture it so it can be tested for rabies. It's brain is required for the test, so keep the head intact.

Forcing skunks out:

Skunk removal isn't hard. The trick is to do most of the work while the skunk is out foraging so you don't risk getting sprayed. Sprinkle a light layer of flour, chalk, or other white powder around it's den and wait until nightfall. After dark, return and look for tracks leading away to indicate that the skunk has left in search of food and then get to work sealing up all of the entrances. If you do this right the skunk will not be able to get back in. If he does, wait until the next evening and try again.

Skunk traps
If you can't seem to coerce your skunky buddy to leave willingly, you may need to trap him. First, check with your local authorities to make sure you're within the law to do so and then invest in a box skunk trap that is small enough to keep the skunk from raising it's tail all the way up.

When you set the trap, secure a few old towels or blankets to the outside to make it safer to approach once it catches a skunk. Bait the trap with anything that has a strong odor; sardines, tuna, giblets, and canned cat food are all good choices. Check it often, you're just as likely to catch a stray cat or raccoon as you are a skunk so don't depend on your nose.

Once you've got your skunk, cover up the trap so it cannot see outside (don't smother it) and secure it in an open trunk or back of your pick up for a nice long ride out of town. When you've located a suitable secluded area, place the trap on the ground, open it up and wait for the skunk to leave. Skunks will often be confused and scared so it might take it a while to work up the courage - be patient. Sometimes you can coax it out by sitting the trap so it's floor is angled towards the door.

If that doesn't work, consider leaving it for a few hours and returning later to retrieve the empty trap.

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.

Rumor has it that skunks in your shed aren't the only skunks you're dealing with. :-#

I find that posting signs with this picture works well in both cases.

ONCE...when I was about 14 I shot a garbage can tipping over skunk with an arrow. ONCE.

I would advise any newbies against actions like that.

JUST ONCE.

Do you have any idea how many showers one would need to take before a grandmother would let one back in the house.

This is outside type showers.

NEVER AGAIN

Ah, memories. Once as a kid I had found some of my grandpa's old jump traps, so set a few in the lowlands by my folks house with ambitions of getting rich off coyote pelts (I was a kid :money: ). All I caught was a skunk. My mom made me shoot it with the .22. Although it was a head shot, it let loose a torrent of spray. I had to get in there and clean it all up. I ended up burying the trap with the skunk on the spot. It was a Monday morning and I had to go to school after that and no one wanted to sit near me. 8-[

Lesson learned. Traps went back to the garage.

I like Big D's flour trick. Good luck. We used to get them in the garage occasionally, but they'd usually wander away. Never had to deal with them living under our outbuildings (Dad was careful about that).

Once you figure out how to get the skunk out of your shed, send the info to Trent so he can get the skunk out of his boat!!

I think jumping on the shed floor would have dislodged the skunk. Have Trent jump up and down in his boat and the skunk should leave. If it doesn't...tell him he's not holding his mouth right.

I also set traps and caught a skunk ONCE. I had to get close enough to tap him on the head with a stick. I got out lots easier with that skunk, but still only did it once.

Cmon Bill,

With the arsenal you have just take a big bore and blast the culprit. If its a female you'll soon have a bunch of little stinkers around.

i've gotten rid of more than skunks using socks full of mothballs tied to a string. get it as far back into the area occupied and they will have enough of the stuff and leave. but you'll want to pull it back out because the smell from them can be pretty strong.
