Re: New Boat Opinions??
My dad has a 14' polar kraft for his lake trips. Just the plain jane model with a 4 stroke yamaha. I have been in the boat numerous time and would feel comfortable take it out in the sound. It is a beast. Handles chop well, feels very well built. And as far as I know polar kraft has a very good reputation up north for good strong well built boats. I dont see how you could go wrong with one.

They're "Babe" Winkilemans boat of choice. The ones I've seen appear to be a quality rivited product.

Re: New Boat Opinions??
Financing on boats is so cheap, if you're going to buy a new boat put a new motor on it. If you buy the boat rigged the brand new motor is half of what you would pay for it off the shelf. Don't give yourself the headache of the old motor on a new boat, it's a setup for heart ache. If I can give you one bit of advice when buying a boat, don't settle, figure out what you want/need and make sure it has the max rated size motor.

Tell him to sharpen his pencil, that seems out of line. Is the seller a Polar Craft Dealer or is he just selling one? It's a buyers market, if you have to walk out a few times, do it. You might get a similar quote from a few dealers, just to let that jack hole know your serious about shopping. It sounds like he's trying to qualify you and set you up for an easy pick. (of your pocket.) Secure your own financing, the best rates are through your local credit union.

Re: New Boat Opinions??
I'd install it myself. Esp since its a tiller. Just have to make sure motor is mounted high enough.

Re: New Boat Opinions??
Scratching around a little, what it looks like is he's doing is using the boat as a come on and then making his price up on the motor. Awesome CL tactic! Total package price with a 40 isn't that bad but you still want to kick him in the .... a few times just to make sure he's honest. Go to a couple mfg's web sites, build the boat the way you want it and knock 10 to 15% off the msrp. You could always call his bluff and buy a bare boat and find the motor online, plenty of deals to be had and a tiller mount isn't that hard for a couple guys to do.

Haggle and shop, take your time. It's a buyers market for boats and if you're patient you'll find a sweet deal. That boat doesn't seem half bad though.

Re: New Boat Opinions??
oh boy, this discussion is going to move from boats to relationships!
I consulted my Boss. JoAnn says if it's your money then you don't have a limit.
If it's her money then my wife says "I guess he has a limit".
Good luck with that. I predict most guys will say get the boat you want. The argument is you don't spend that much money to buy a boat that you'll hopefully own for 10-15 years and get the one you don't want.
Settling is seldom a good choice.

+1 on that. Get the one you want, even if it's a bit more pennies. Boat loans have great interest rates, and if you're just going to want to do it again in 2 or 3 years, than it's worth the extra 5 g's.Mike Carey wrote:oh boy, this discussion is going to move from boats to relationships!![]()
