Another dig coming up in March. Does anyone know if Grayland is doing good this year? It's not the best tide, something like +0.5'.

Doing the razor clam digs are another thing i've wanted to do. Everyone talks about it and the taste of the clams with a lot of praise, so it's always struck an interest in me to try it out sometime....

Razor clamming in the rain sucks, you get covered in sand and end up soaked but you keep doing it again because nothings better then fresh razor clams.

A buddy was did some digging earlier in the year and he said he did o.k.

Man I've always wanted to go Razor Clammin. I love digging for manilas up in Barclay Sound, B.C. but that's if there isn't a 'red tide.' Are razor clams any good to eat, or are they chewy?

Amended dig times

When the state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the next clam dig, set for March 7-12, it didn’t account for daylight savings time. If the digs are approved, these are the low tide times:

March 7: 6:21 p.m., +0.3 feet, Twin Harbors only.

March 8: 6:58 p.m., +0.5, Twin Harbors and Long Beach only.

March 9: 8:28 a.m., +0.3: Twin Harbors and Long Beach only.

March 10: 9:12 a.m., 0, Twin Harbors only.

March 11: 9:59 a.m., -0.1, Twin Harbors only.

March 12: 10:51 a.m., 0.0: Twin Harbors only.

They are DEE LEE CIOUS. I like the Manila/butter clams better, but won't pass up razors.

I like to use a long bladed shovel, and have gotten pretty good at it. Many people use the tube, but it's too hard on my back.

I wear waders while digging, and so I don't mind getting dirty in the sand or the rain blowing sideways. When I'm done, it's time to go surf fishing for perch.

You have to try razor clamming once. It's a blast. Of course they're great to eat. The March's weekend they're switching from a night tide to a morning tide from Saturday to Sunday. We'll probably spend the weekend there.

The only places I have gone were Kalaloch and Ocean Shores. Did good at both places once we had figured it out. It takes some practice to keep from breaking them. Really good eating!

how far in advance do they announce the digs? I am mulling around planning a trip to westport/ocean shores area for the razors/perch for a weekend but i would need to have a bit of advanced notice.

I was thinking of staying in Westport too, I was wondering if Grayland was any good. I've never tried the perch thing, I might have to give it a shot. I usually go to Ocean Shores.

If anybody has an open spot for digging coming up let me know. I'd love to give this a serious go with a seasoned vet! Do you eat the whole razor clam? Do they resembles oysters? What do they taste like? I love Maniila Clams, I buy them pre-purged at Costco.
