Very true...........but............an easy to find spot that deals strictly with fishing rights is always easier and well more effective. It is in every anglers interest to be informed. The fishing clubs that are succeeding are the clubs that political........many anglers are concerned and uniformed............offering a tool to "put out the word" is truly in the best interest of anglers and the board.

I know many salmon anglers who are waiting to see what happens on thursday...........that could be the point they put for sale signs on their boats. The DNR is about commercial interest..............

Case in point.......if you go to the BASS forum here you can see a thread about lead restrictions..............I posted it on here with NO response.......Why???? Because no one knew what I was asking. Same post on a fishing rights section on another site..........lots of response and guys went to the meeting to fight.

If your looking for Bass, River, Boat etc info you look to the proper board...............fishing rights............still hoping the other guy knows and is fighting............we'll all be golfing.

Leave "Off Topic" alone.

BD is an anything goes site. Definitely not "family friendly". I participate in several boards, have moderated a few, and have found the political forums require almost constant baby sitting by the mods. Some folks can post respectful comments to threads and others postings, but there are a lot of troglodytes out there who only participate in political forums and who want to take the forums over for their own point of view and denigrate anyone who has the audacity to offer a differing opinion. Far too many folks spend their time and energy venting on political forums rather than getting involved in the rule setting negotiations with the politicians, feds, tribes, and states. Flame on!

Wolverine........no one wants to turn this site into BD or take this site to unfriendly places. This is more about fishing rights than politics yes of course politics are involved. To me it makes sense, we all fish, we all love to fish and if we all voice together we can help win these fights. More that half of the bills and crap that comes up about our fishing rights never makes it to this site. I know lots of people are on other sites as am I, but not everyone is. Why not make one location in the forums to find this info or up and coming meetings that we ALL can attend to fight to keep our rights and even give us more fishing opportunities?

There will be a car pool on Thursday from Kitsap county (and i am sure other locations) down to Oly for the meeting. Don't be afraid to jump on board or to come down if you are free.

I've been trying to think of a good place to put this information as it comes up. As much as I HATE politics, the regs, rules, and other info NEEDS to be posted. I think a 'sub-forum' in the 'Announcements' forum would be a good place.

As far as no-one responding to the banning lead thread in the Bass Forum, I didn't respond as I had already sent a couple e-mails to the Govenor, and she ended up voting for/incouraging the ban, even after the Wa wildlife commission said that the deaths of the loons were incidental and lead weights had nothing to do with it, and banning lead weights in those lakes, or any lake, wouldn't make any difference. Just a 'feel good' legislation.

I have got to agree that there is place for politics on this board. Sometimes things may be heated/etc but that is just because people are passionate about these issues. The rules of the forum and its family friendly nature would obviously still apply, but it would make a good place to consolidate what exactly is going on in the fishing world.

You know AMX I thought about it but most of the stuff in there is club post and what not but I will post stuff where ever you tell me I need to. I just want the people of this site to be educated or at least maybe have a better clue of what is going on with our state and our fishing rights. Also give them a chance to speak there mind and maybe even send in their emails and letters to the appropriate people if they wanted. Lots of people have no clue to where these letters should go or even that they make a difference.

Thank you

Yes, as long as the DISCUSIONS stay civil and no arguing. As I have to moderate it and ANY arguing, and SOMETHING will happen. Image Image

Boy, it almost makes me feel like I should grab my pitch fork and torch and march down and storm the steps of the the state capital.

First of all, I don't feel that the administrators and moderators or the members want to turn Washingtonlakes.com into a political action committee.

The intent of this forum is to have a friendly place for people who love the sport of fishing and who participate in it to share their thoughts and offer support and advice to others.

I have noticed that most on the forum are very well educated about the sport and are very interested in what the laws and rules are. Many times they request members to contact their representatives and ask them to vote one way or the other. Many members are very passionate about the conservation of our waters and fish.

This site and it's members try to work together with the WDFW and I don't think that most want to "fight WDFW". In my opinion, this is inflammatory rhetoric.

You may freely post any upcoming meeting that you urge members to attend. But as far as designating a section of the forum to a PAC, I am firmly against that .

Scott080379, I've been making the drive down to Oly and other places where they hold meetings since 1975. Haven't been down as much the past 3-4 years but I've put a lot of miles on the rigs and burned up a lot of vacation days showing the flag. I do occasionally take the WDFW to task but in reality they are doing explicitly what they are told to do by their political masters. If the good folks at WDFW wish to remain employed and promotable they often end up talking out of both sides of their mouths. After they retire its surprising how many of them become fish activists. As you well know, and I hope that others do also; politicians are "obligated" to their $$$ campaign contributors (commercial fishermen and tribes) to do what the contributors want. So the politicians put extreme pressure on the WDFW to do what their donors desire. To the commercials and tribes fish are just $$$, regardless of what they say. We as sportsmen (not all), don't want to contribute a dime, don't want to support organizations like CCA, don't want to go to meetings, contact their local, state, or federal politicians and voice their concerns and hold them accountable. Most fishermen would rather just go fishing and hope to catch the last fish before the fish go extinct. Off my soapbox....

Wolverine,
I am afraid I must disagree........Up until a few months ago I felt the same as you. The WDFG had called a public opinion meeting on dealing with albacore limits. We called for help and about 30 guys from the other board and PSA reps show. It was very clear at the beginning of the meeting that they(wdfg) had already decided to implement limits and what the numbers were to be. Well we kicked up so much dust they backed down.....held it the same for at least 2 more years.

Today is a very important meeting in Oly. it could effect every single fishermen and hunter in WA state. Having the the commission removed will hurt every saltwater angler immediately IMO. Do I have an interest........of course I do.......more then many I make my living running a charter boat on the coast. I fish for work but I also fish all the time because it is my hobby, my passion, my church.

I talk to a lot of fishermen. Most believe they are informed............until they are asked about "hot topics"...............Many of the clubs are working hard on informing members but that does not always cover ALL the issues. I am encouraged and hopeful that the issues will be more accessible here now. For the record I don't want this board to turn into BD...........the feeling is comfortable here. There are a lot of freshwater anglers who mostly don't belong to clubs that lurk around here...........those folks hopefully can start to see that there are things they can do to protect their rights.

I hope that later today..........there is not a post on here talking about the blending of the WDFG and DNR.......................

I am sorry but it is a pet peeve of mine...get the name right! Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. WDFW

I vote no politic forum.

Merging these departments is a way to save money. That is what the Governor is looking at.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Well me being New to washington and this fourm I don't see what the problem is keeping like it has been just post a thread for the changes and the meetings that you or anyone hears about I don't see why a new section has to be in place for this to happen. this is a fourm ment for topics to be discussed in reefing fourms Politics was always left out due to the nature of some stong beliefs just like religon. IMHO just leave it as is just like how this one is going you post something people reply easy but to have a full section on this I am sure MIke and the other Mods have better things to do besides baby sit another topic. and it is bad enough when elections where going on, we got bombarded with adds on this site it seems key words bring adds!

As far as believing that all the clubs and "people who know" are already working on things................. You might want to read this http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/washi ... night.html

The challenges to fishing rights have been and will continue to come hard and fast. If you read above link you can see what concerned fishermen can and will do to help all fishermen.........................

The question really is.............do the people on this board want a place to be informed.................or wait for the other guys to do it for them.

The final decision must come from our Overlords. Im with Toni and others on no politics. Just documented truths . What we dont need is an opinion section.

"What should use to catch a blackmouth in the sound"...................."what area should I fish".................."What is the best rig for bass"................."Where should I go to catch a trout"......................
Any answer to the questions above would be an opinion. If documented truth is your quest it ain't happening on any thread here. ...................Might try a church.................but their record is almost as bad as Oly..................

PS. Documented truth.......there is a meeting tomorrow in OLY............the fate of WDFG(i know I know WDFW) will be on the line...................But I know who cares right.............hell we're all just hoping that we can catch the last fish................won't be us if this passes.............It will be a commercial or tribal boat that gets the last one........there organized............as is proven here............sport anglers are not.

I prefer "Fish and Game"! They should have never changed the name, they should have never divided their focus away from sportsmen! Now they are caught up catering to people who don't even buy a license, who don't pay into the kitty the way we do. Sportsmen's dollars should be spent producing and managing catchable "Fish and Game!" I hate change and will probably kick and scream all the way to my grave..... ;)~

political correctness disclaimer: The term "sportsmen" is non gender specific and refers to all who seek to put "Fish and Game" in their belly or catch and release.

This is in good fun and not meant to be degrading, or disrespectful, PLEASE do not take offence....
