LEAVENWORTH, Wash. —
The Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery has lost much of its $18.1 million federal grant to replace its failing water system.
The federal Bureau of Reclamation said Thursday that the funding, part of the government's stimulus package, will now be used for other projects. The agency says that its recent decision to delay a draft environmental assessment for the project means it would not meet deadlines for spending the stimulus money.
The Wenatchee World reports that the government wanted to improve the water system, including building a pumping station and a weir, or dam-like structure, on Icicle Creek. However, many people at public meetings questioned the accelerated timeline for the project and the need for the creek structure.

I just got done reading the article...
It sounds like the Rec Dist. has been dragging their feet with this project, let alone when 200 people attend a meeting to express concerns and hear about the updated plan... Seriously? So maybe there was some design flaws, anytime there is a grant involved you have to have the money spent in a timely matter. They screwed themselves on this one!
