So I've been fishing te sky this last 2 weeks for some coho and this weekend I finally landed 2 nice and bright ones and lost a a third all on dicknights 50/50 so it wanted to know what every one else is using to get them jigs, spoons ?

Glad u posted this, I didn't want to start another thread. So, I've had all my luck twitchin a jig so far. I was at a hole today and there were 3 guys next to me fishing corky and yarn maybe a 4ft leader. They were pretty consistently getting bites with this setup so I tried the exact same thing and couldn't get a bite. He said the bite was very light and to pull if anything feels fishy? ...what was I doing wrong? 1/4oz lead to a 4ft leader, drifting the bottom just like them but nothing felt fishy to me????

If you shorten your lead up so you are barely tapping bottom you can tell a rock from a bite a little better. A fish will kind of feel like your hook is stuck on a rubber band. When in doubt set the hook

The detectable bite while drift fishing can hard to distinguish. This was a tough learning curve for me. The first thing that I realized was that the rod I had was not sensitive enough to feel the bottom bounces and the pull of a fish. Different current speeds and bottom structure will make the bounce feel different as well as the amount weight you are using each time you fish the bottom. Once I got a decent rod I and had the help of an experienced fisherman (local Guide) I started to learn how to feel. After a few casts I can tell what the bottom feels like and when I feel a deviation from that it’s time to set the hook. Sometimes the bite feels like you’re hung up on the bottom, your rod tip may start to bend, and again this is time to set the hook. Some bite is the most subtle tap, tap, tap or a regular bounce on the bottom that suddenly stops set the hook.

Drift fishing is a good way to catch silvers if your using bait, yes. But there is some many better ways.

Dick Nites- The nickel back frog is deadly for Coho, they can't seem to leave them alone!

Brads Wigglers/wigglewarts/k-11s/mag lips- Casting plugs is a very effective way to fish for Silvers. Most people troll them, I like the cast and retrieve method. The Orange/black brads is one of my favorite plugs, but any bright color seems to work, just put a little scent on it and let the plug work its magic. Just make sure your holding onto the rod really well, a coho plug crush is insane!

Spinners and spoons- Blue fox, Knd, Rvrfshr all make good coho spinners. Make sure you have a few colors cause some days one color will work and its different the next. Reel them slow and reel them all the way to your feet, Ive had many Coho crushes 3 feet from the end of the rod tip.

Twitching jigs- Areo Jig, JoelsJigs, even a lead head with a bass grub will straight slay if fish are tucked tight into cover.

In my own opinion i think a good scent can really change a day of fishing. even when i fish eggs i use scent. Ive thrown a spinner into a hole for hours at fish, put on scent and get hammered that same cast. They also seem to be sensitive to light and hit better in the morning and evening and when its cloudy, not saying they wont hit in the sunshine though. Another mistake iI see people doing is downsizing for clear water with these fish, I run 15-20# line in every condition, either braid or mono, not to say a fish cant be landed on lighter, but when youve got a 14# wild fish cooking line off into a snag pile its nice to be able to horse him around a little bit. These fish can be tricky to catch when there is a ton of pressure, I try to stay away from high pressure areas and move if the fish arent hitting anything.

I nailed the silvers today on the Skagit with #4 vibrax either chartreuse or orange. They didn't seem all that picky today.

Dick Nites is my #1 coho lure, also use a planer board & plug if the river is colored up.

Where is the good spot on the skagit right now. I was just below the hatchery on the south nooksack the other day and they wetre bighting prety good. Just a long drive

I have a question about casting the brads wiggle warts. I just bought a new rod with a fast action, upgrade from a med fast, both are med backbone. Should I use the slower action for casting plugs? Also, havent figured out how to cast them in spots I would normally drift. I have kinda got the hang of the blue fox spoon, but not quite the vibrax yet.

Any tips on the wiggle warts would be great - I can't wait to get into some fish on these!!!

Question about the wiggle warts - I heard these were great for catching coho. I have a couple I already set up with the beaded chain swivel and siwash hook. Big question is about using these from bank casting. Do you use them where you normally use other drifting techniques? (Think corkies or spoons). Also, does action of the rod need to be stiffer than with other drift techniques? I like the feel I get with a blue fox 1/4 spoon on a medium heavy fast action rod, but wondering if I should go to med-heavy med fast for wigglers?

Any suggestions would be great! Can't wait to land some on these!!!

Oh and also do you have to attack the drift different, like to give it time to get down in the hole?

yeah you could swing the plugs but I have seen people do well on just casting and retrieving them like spinners
