Northwest Fishing Reports

Hi all

I live in Redmond and only have experiences with trout and bass. This year I hope I can catch some steelheads and silvers. I know silvers are not coming yet, but saw many rate 3+ reports on steelheads. I guess it is already a good time to catch steelheads.

Can anyone tell me some bank fishing spots where there are decent chances to catch steelhead? Suggestions on typical steelhead rig setting is also highly welcomed.

Start surfing the rivers forums, maybe do a forum search for steelhead. All the info you are looking for is there.

Google, fishing reports and youtube will be your best friends on this subject.
Skykomish, green, cowlitz and some penninsula rivers all hold summer steelhead which people are catching now through october and then winters november through april. I prefer float fishing especially if you are new becuse you lose less gear and it is easier to see the bite. Buy some good jigs in nightmare, diferent shades of pink, peach, red and orange in 1/16th and 1/8th oz, 8-10lb flourocarbon, small swivels and small dink floats or sliding bobbers in 1/8-3/8oz w/ bobber stops.

Near Redmond you would be fishing the Snoqualmie and The Green rivers, which both have summer run in them. A bit further is the Skykomish which has a more reliable run of fish. I've been fishing the Sky quite a bit since it opened and it's been doing pretty good. It should get better as the fish start to pile in.

But don't forget about Chinook! They will be here before the Coho, and you'll need to get a notch in your belt from them as well. As far as techniques go, learn how to tie an egg loop, and get yourself some roe and a slip float and a ten foot rod. The best way to catch all three of the fish you're after.

Keep in mind snoqualmie is selective gear only right now until December 1st.

My problem is the places, like Snoqualmie and Skykomish, are too general for me. I have no idea where I can fish steelhead along the banks of those long rivers. I will be appreciated if you guys can tell (or PM) me some spots (i.e., GPS location), I then go there can try my luck.

I would have provided a link Bugmasta if I knew how. Some of us old Geezers are just not that tech savey.

Sometimes you have to do a little exploring. Most of the places I know are from talking with fishermen and tracking down any piece of info about a river, and driving along the rivers.

Hehehehe, Yeah, nobody said Steelheading was easy. A big part is finding the spot....... It's the fish of 10,000 casts, better get started!

what yo mean they easy to catch

it's the fish of 1000 cast is what I thought until this past season. Amazing steelheading last winter hope it is the same for this summer.
Try looking up past fishing reports or google some river maps under images if naming rivers are to general.
Google, fishing reports, and youtube will be your best friends like I said previously.

Don't let the secret out! Then I'll be out of a job! It's true, steelhead are the fish of a bajillion casts if you're casting into water where there are no steelhead, which is what most folks do. But when you find them, and you get your gear in front of them, then it's like fishing blue gill. Well, maybe not that easy but it sure does fall into place when you get on fish. It would help if some of our runs would get better.
