We get to play with Sockeye in the Skagit for two weeks in June AAAANNNDDDD we get our Skykomish Chinook fishery.

Washington's ocean waters: The PFMC yesterday approved a recreational chinook catch quota of 59,100 fish, which is an increase of 11,000 fish from 2013's quota. The PFMC, which establishes fishing seasons in ocean waters three to 200 miles off the Pacific coast, also adopted a quota of 184,800 coho for this year's recreational ocean fishery - about 110,000 fish higher than last year's quota.

Mark-selective salmon fisheries will begin in ocean areas on various dates in May.

The recreational salmon fishing season in Marine areas 3 (La Push) and 4 (Neah Bay) will begin with two short openings May 16 and 17, and May 23 and 24 for hatchery chinook. The mark-selective fishery for hatchery chinook in those two marine areas will then reopen May 31 and run seven days a week through June 13.
Mark-selective fisheries for hatchery chinook will be open daily May 31 through June 13 in Marine Area 2 (Westport/Ocean Shores) and Marine Area 1 (Ilwaco). In all areas, anglers will have a daily limit of two salmon, but must release coho and wild chinook. The fisheries could close earlier if a coastwide quota of 9,000 hatchery chinook is reached.
Recreational ocean salmon fisheries for chinook and hatchery coho will be open daily beginning June 14 in Marine areas 1-4. Anglers will have a daily limit of two salmon in Marine areas 3 and 4. Those fishing Marine areas 1 and 2 also will have a two-salmon daily limit, but can keep only one chinook per day. Marine Area 4 will close Sept. 21 while Marine areas 1 and 2 close Sept. 30. Marine Area 3 closes Sept. 21 but will be open again Sept. 27 through Oct. 12.

Puget Sound did NOT fare well..... I heard there is also an article in the Times, I haven't read.

I'm excited for the kings. Not a big fan of the sokeye in the river, I like the lake. Hope that extra week on the Skok I'll be able to get down there. There's a lot of work to be done on those sky kings and steelhead though.

There was something about the Ballard Locks ceremonial fishery that took numbers from areas 9 & 10.... hearsay until I read it in a reliable source. But there it is...

Oh we have to go fish the Skagit. I had way to much fun when that thing was open. Like 20-30min and the boat is limited and we are heading home

Yes, unfortunately we have the muckleshoots to blame for a drastically reduced hatchery chinook quota in areas 9 and 10. We are only getting 3300 in 9 and 1100 in 10. Even with the one fish limit I doubt if we will get very many days again this year. Whatever you do, NEVER tell a fish checker that you released a wild (or hatchery) fish, and never report any shakers.

So I have been hearing that Baker River is gonna open this year. That's just hear say from a buddy but hes pretty sure its gonna open. Anyone else hearing this?

the skagit will open. they wont open the baker river because thats where the upper skagit nets and last time they opened that guns were drawn

Two people have said ya its gonna, I don't believe them haha. Ill be waiting on the actual regs book to come out.

Im sure if it was going to it would have been mentioned in the anouncments. Like I said before thats where the tribes string their nets across the mouth and they do not want to be bothered. I could see it happening after the tribe got their quota and without a lower river fishery. But since the lower river will be open there will be a lot of sockeye taken down there and they want the rest to go into baker.

Maybe that's what they were talking about was it opening after the tribe get theirs.

That sounds like a good idea and would give more people oppertunity but i think they would rather see the rest go into the lake. They would have done it two years ago when almost 15k more fish came back then predicted, if thats something they would do.

Man that really sucks. With a one fish limit I thought it would last awhile. The tribes always win. Never, ever go into an indian casino!
