I'm going to be heading down to barrier in a week or two and was wondering what set ups to use for both steelhead and springers. Any help is much appreciated. Thank You

Eggs under a float. Sand shrimp under a float. Eggs and sand shrimp under a float. Eggs or sand shrimp or eggs and sand shrimp plunked with a spin and glow from the plunking area by the boat ramp.

If I freedrift for springers, what lb of line would I use and what size hooks? Also when I make the spawn sacs what mesh do I use and what else do I put in with the eggs?
Thanks

20 lbs. braid and 15 mono leader, couple of pac man weights above the swivel. A lot of guys go lighter than that, but they lose a lot more fish too.

I don'tg use spawn sacs, but if I do, it's just the normal ones you get in the store. A nice glob of cured eggs works just fine. I like a 1/0 or 2/0 hook.

Are you allowed to use barbed hooks?

I dont believe you can. Columbia river tribs are barbless. Try the gamakatsu 2/0 barbless, the shape of them keeps the hook in the mouth better. I think they are considering the allowance of barbs in July for the summer runs though.

Sorry for the post on the old thread but just had a question about when you said the plunking spot by the boat launch.
I know what spot you are talking about but how much lead you need to plunk there? I realize it may vary on different days. But will a 4oz "bank sinker" be sufficient most days? Or would just a couple ounces be necessary? Or should I bump it up to 6+ oz?

Barbless hook now for sure. Springers are almost gone. River is fluctuating all time, summer time. Check river flow everyday play with you weight and you'll get what you want but a little bit later. Fall kings are coming, but not in big amount for now.
4oz would be enough, depends on where you are going to cast. Water is different even in 4 feet around. Just play with weight.
Good luck.
