I know I might be beating a dead horse here with this post, has anyone fished whatcom creek for steelhead even though they aren't planted here anymore? I'm jonesing to sink a line and not have to travel 150+ miles south from Bellingham now that everything is closed...

How do I say "float-n-eggs"? Work it from the south shore down from the wall. Also, double check the regs, could be subject to special or seasonal closure.

Try the Chilliwack River if you don't mind paying the price for a Canadian License.

I was thinking of heading up north to Canada, however I don't have a passport, enhanced drivers liscense or a nexus pass for travel. Obviously a twic card don't work, and from what I've read from a few of the posts the vedder would be the closest-- as far as regs I do believe whatcom creek is open until the last day in February-

A passport card or passport book is your best bet for visiting canada. Be sure to bring paperwork proving your ties to the usa eg. Lease agreement, employment letter, paystubs etc. They can and will deny entry for a multitude of reasons so be careful.
On the other hand there is way more places to fish than just the chilliwack, most rivers here are open and have some steel starting to trickle in.
Also note that if you fish up here youll pay an exorbitant fee for your freshwater license and steelhead stamp i think in the neighborhood of $145 us. Most rivers are barbless hook/bait ban.
