We see em do swim bys but I don't think I've ever heard or seen anybody catch any. If anybody has it would be interesting to hear how they did catch one.

Taking this off topic for a nano second. The Unocal Pier south of the Edmonds fishing pier is scheduled to be removed between 11/24/2008 to March 2009. I wonder what the noise during the removal and all the equipment used will do to the migration of any salmon in the area during that period. Based on what happened when the marina seawall was replaced and prior work at the ferry terminal it might get even slower than its been.

If you want to catch a steelhead, the Edmonds pier would not be the top of my list. I'd hit a river instead.

If your heart is set on catching a steelie in the salt, try the beach fisheries. The best places to try are Ft. Casey, Lagoon Pt, Bush Pt, and Deception Pass on Whidbey Island. On this side of the Sound, Mukilteo State Park (the beach at the point) kicks out a few.

You might get 1 hookup every 6-10 hours on average. They call it fish of a thousand casts, when in saltwater. Although sometimes salt steel seems like fish of 10,000 casts.

With those odds, that's why I hit the rivers instead to improve my chances.

(Fort Casey)=:-$ incoming tide 1 to 2 hours before to be first on race day:bounce:
Hoochie skirts in orange and wing bobber =cast past the breaking waves at least the 3rd set of waves , use a sliding slinky and reel in the presentation in changing speeds touching the bottom a few times so watch your speeds on returns with a baitcaster reel and steelhead Rod medium action is fine due to its salt water press clear 15lb test line

At times the metal/heads will smack it close to the beach!:-#
Wear neophreme waders for warmth stay out of the water!!
Fish are right out front and waters are very clear that your pressing this is a GREAT fisheries when the rivers are blown#-o and can be very Productive are best day from the beach was four dime bright Metalheads loaded with sealice Loads of fun on a single tide change!

Making your treck over to (Fort Casey)/Great parking I might add is Great and park for the kids and lots to see and do and always a nice herd of deer coming into the Park a short hike down to the beach and fish towards the point is more productive due to more tide and bait press it with a incoming tide start fishing 1 full hour before slack/high tide or even earlier to be a fish hog and remember hatchery brates only release all nates!:compress:

Interesting. Your two fish in that picture look to be sporting the adipose fin, but you can only keep hatchery fish out in the saltwater.....

Why post pictures of the fish then if you caught it in a different fishery?
