hi all,
new to the forum. I'm thinking about taking my dad out fishing on Edmonds pier this Sunday for father's day. Anyone have any tips? I heard people have caught rockfish out there...what about flounder? Is the pier the only place to fish there? Any tips appreciated!

I believe what the Swede is saying here is that piers can be real tough to catch things from. For us poor bastards without boats, it makes sense. Lots of The Boatless going to the piers trying to catch a very limited number of fish. People do catch good stuff, but it's rare.
If you're landlocked, consider trying somewhere other than the main piers. For instance, fishingboy put a report up about heading over on the ferry and fishing the Kingston pier with much better success including rockfish. I know it got me thinkin'...

There have been some rock fish caught the last few days. A few Smelt and herring. Undersized Ling. All in the last week or so. Salmon have been a rare thing with more losses than gains.
since I too am boatless the pier is easy access for me. The idea of going to Kingston, Bush Point, or Lagoon Point while may sound like better odds is also going to cost more in gas, time, and ferry rides to and from.
Which leads me to this point regarding some of the boaters. If you have access to entire Puget Sound why do you (whomever owns the boat) insist on fishing in casting range of the danged pier. By the way thats my same rant on many of the lakes.
Signed Idiot that wishes he had money and a boat.

Me too! My boats seats 4 comfortable. And I spend to much time launching from Camano alone. Never the Funnest of runs. Im still learning the area and the fishing but company is always welcome!

That's very cool of you guys, it's nice to know that some of us non-boat havin' fishing freaks can get out there and do the whole boat thing. I might just beg my way on a boat this year :bounce:

Edmonds is usually good at night. I've caught some good sized rockfish out there. Not so much flounder but goto Dash Point Park pier or Shilshole for flounder.

basicly if you want most flounders go to dash point, mukilteo, or kingston marina inside!
