this has been brought up so many times around the Seattle area with the folks I talk to! Sure.. they say were over due over a earthquake sometime in the future, and yes we are, but NOT a megathrust quake! The megathrust happens about every 500-600 years and of you add 1700+500 or 600= the year 2200 or 2300 or in that time period. We are over due for a Seattle fault quake. Which most likely will be damaging nd shallow and could generate Tsunamis in the sound an Lk. Washington! The Cascadia Subduction zone has produced a Tsunami that hit the washington coast when the Native amercians were settling in around which now is The Olympic Peninsula.

All I can say is that when I finish a tile job, I tell my customers that I will guarantee my work until 12/12/2012. After that, their on their own! LOL

I would hate to see the effects of a quake that large here. I was in a newly built office building in Freamont when we had the Nisqually quake. It was quite a ride. I cant imagine when the folks down in Steilicoom were thinking.

I don't believe in 2012, the movie yes but not the ending of the world. Now Media sources and officials are saying that there is a volcano has erupted ash so far and a lava dome is building but at this point not a major issue at the moment.

You mean in Japan? The volcano at the south end of the island of Japan erupted a couple weeks or so ago. Now it is just smoking a little, same as what Mt ST Helens did, after spits.

You know, I'm not losing any sleep over all this, because when it comes, it comes. Personally I feel that humans will bring an end to life on this earth before any natural disaster. Humans have no control over natural occurrences. Japan has perhaps the best safeguards in place for earthquakes and tsunamis, but not both at the same time. There is no measure that can be taken to prevent a catastrophe like this, other than not live there. The same is true for the west coast. If you are going to be "sleepless in Seattle" worrying about this, move to Kansas. But then again, you have to deal with the tornadoes.

Just got home from the Oregon Coast. Had a great time considering the threat of tsunamis.
We headed for higher ground while a tsunami warning was in place but around noon on Friday,the warning was lifted.
Later that day we experienced one surge,nothing exciting,it looked more like a fast rising tide and lasted for maybe a minute. We did notice plenty a Coast Guard helicopters cruising up and down the coast and the media was everywhere,literally...everywhere.

I know a side of a hawaiian valcano collapsed but the big Island lava has been flowing for years . they say all these volcanos are tied into each other I am not sure how the hell they know that do they toss a ball in and see if it pops out the other side lol. thermal I would like to see the photos if they are personally. I do believe there will be a global uprising of the people heck look at wisconson they are already off the rocker there the obama bill people protesting this man will never get anything done as people do not like any changes that will happen. I'm not really worried about any quake, tsunami, or volcano itself, I'm worried about how people will act afterwards. Worst case scenario, a huge quake hits and roads, bridges, rail, are all out for several days, food and water get scarce - and 'normal' people start doing crazy things to get their hands on the food and water that is left. Not to mention all the thugs and idiots we have living around here that act that way on a day to day basis.

Pretty much a zombie apocolypse situation, but with live, desparate, indecent humans - instead of zombies.

Well, there was some of that going on after Katrena, but for the most part, people helped each other out and they are recovering. In general, when something like this happens, we band together as neighbors and help each other out. Case in point, Mt. St. Helens.

Japan will recover, but it will take some time. They are a determined strong culture. They will need help from the rest of the world, but they will recover.

Haiti on the other hand, who knows. That government has been corrupt for decades. Although tragic, there doesn't seem to be much global support going that way. When they didn't have a strong infrastructure before, how are they going to build a new one. First you have to have a free, economically strong nation to recover. That isn't the case down there. I feel for the people, especially the children, caught in the middle.

See, that's exactly why I fear that situation. Our society is slowing moving downhill, and people are less and less decent as the days pass by.

Possibly a reason to take precautions, I have a few thousand rounds at my disposal right now. (most are .22)

But I would not bank on the US society to fall into that state.

Like Lee said, the turds in society would take advantage of a situation and being prepared is prudent. Im all for that.

I've got sufficient defensive supplies on hand to deal with the vampires that come out when there is a major infrastructure tragedy. However, in a worst case scenario, I also have plenty of 17 hmr, 22 lr, and various other hunting rifle ammo as well as my fishing tackle to be able to "live off the land" for a while until things settle down. I'm not a Mormon, but I have more food and water stockpiled than most Mormons have. Take care of the easy things first. Survivalist/Militia folks give me the willies.
