Truck surging issue

I had an interesting truck issue recently. We were driving up the hill to our house and suddenly the engine starts reving 3-5,000 rpms. I had to hold the brake down and still the truck surged forward. I managed to get it parked. Called AAA for a tow to my mechanic. The guy says " mind if I look under the hood"? I say sure and he fiddles around and pulls out a pebble. "Try it now ". I do and the motor runs fine. It turns out a pebble bounced up and jammed itself in the throttle thingy (I'm not a mechanic ). Anyway, cudos to the tow truck guy. Saved me a tow and show repair bill. All due to a tiny pebble!

Ive had cables break or come loose but never heard of a pebble getting stuck in one. Glad you got a good tow guy and saved some money!

I wrench for a living and thats a first in my book! Most common stuck throttle issues ive seen are rodent related or frayed cables. Quite an exhilarating experience for a few seconds, huh?

I'll bet it was a scary one! All of a sudden no control of the gas! That's just crazy that a little pebble would bounce up and land in there. I had a chunk of a pallet board get kicked up and jammed the throttle at a high idle on a truck. It's a terrifying experience.

Not at all. My wife gave him a good tip. Service above and beyond should be shown appreciation imo. Plus, saved us a repair shop bill.
Last year my son and I were hunting in Montana and his car got stuck in some muck and mud. Real thick stuff that we didn't see until it was too late. Pretty disgusting. That tow truck guy got a nice tip also.
Which is a segway to a side rant... it annoys me when tips are automatically added to a bill. A tip is a thanks for outstanding service and should be earned, not automatically added regardless of the service provided. Rant over.

gotta take care of the blue collar workers. They don't get enough thanks.
