Northwest Fishing Reports

I'm trying to reserve some campsites for late August (insert your jokes and chuckles) and obviously any place worth goin' is booked. I've come across this site calle 25 mile creek near chelan. Does anybody know anything about this place? I need some place with #1 fishing! and swimming, and trails of some sort.

I was here a few years ago when their was a wildfire. Its a pretty area but camping spots in this area....well I have no clue:-$

I have stopped by there a few times but have never stayed there.The few times stopping there it looks like a nice place to camp but I have always stayed at Lake Chelan St Pk. A few things I can tell you is that it has a nice boat launch & dock along with sheltered moorage.There used to be a concession stand that sold food and gas for boats but this was a few years ago & I do not know if they still operate.As far as fishing goes I would guess there is the cutties,bows,lakers,koks & kings,maybe lings but most likely not the smallies since that far up lake it is cold & deep.Best times to fish is going to be determined by the wind wind wind.The one thing I noticed there is that between 10-11 am till 6-7 pm is that it blows downlake am uplake pm and it was waves and whitecaps.The one good thing is that you are right where the forest road that comes from the Entiat river ends up by the camp.You could go up & over and do some hiking/fishing there when its bad on the lake.I am pretty sure the campground has a swimming beach since most St Prks on water do.If the weather is right you are half way up the lake to Stehekin and also close to the trail up to Domke Lk which I hear is pretty nice.Never have made it past 25 mile by boat do to wind during the 7years of fishing in the May derby for kings and that was in a 24 ft Sea Ray could of made it but not worth the beating.Hope this helps you and don't wait too long to make res.

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout! Thanks for the info. I booked it today. I was starting to get worried that it was just a horrible spot. I truly believe you have to book Chelan state park in January!!! Cuz it's booked solid the weekends I want to go. Your're the man produce....I can't believe you're the only one besides Kev B Free that has info on this spot....oh well Thanks fellas

OOH, I just got a thread idea, I'll post some pics of the campsite and a fish report.....it'll be the Best fishing/campsite thread....lol

And then next year when everyone goes camping, all we'll see is WL.com stickers on the trucks.

Thanks Iskiles, but this link is for "Chelan State park", which is booked solid.....I was looking at 25 mile creek state part which is about a 30 minute drive up the road......kinda like the ghetto verison of Chelan State park.....that's where I'm headed!

Well technically no....but if you look at the 25 mile creek site compared to the Chelan state park......you'd know what I'm talkin about......Chelan State park is like Medina..and 25 mile creek is like Kent......LOL....I don't know, I'll have to take some pics when I get there...we're goin in late August. By the way, if anyone who has been there recently wants to chime in on this I'd appreciate it...thanks produce2trout for your input. Has anyone actually stayed here?

Are you going to be taking up a boat?If yes,what kind ,size?

Okay,since I have never fished uplake that far I really do not have any solid knowledge for you but here is what I can tell you about my actual experience.

If you have downriggers and a depthfinder:
Lake trout are going to be in deepwater.What you want to find is a bowl/basin which can be anywhere from 200-400ft deep.They like to hang out on the bottom like blackmouth do in daylight but during times of low/no light they move up in the water column.Only in the colder months do they go to shallower water.tactics they use are trolling slowly with flatfish U-20 size or bigger or similar lures along with flashers,salmon hootchies/flashers large spoons/flashers and herring, anchovies /dodger
Chinooks(landlocked): same tactics as above except the kings are more spread out in the water column,they tend to be more solitary than grouped.The kings tend to feed more on the tiny mysis shrimp which are very light sensitive.These shrimp tend to be in balls and they go up and down in the water column.As it gets dark they rise up to sometimes within 40ft of the surface ,then start a slow descent as it gets light.During the day they will be in these deep bowls/basins.The kings love to swim thru these shrimp with their mouth open and inhale them.I have had better luck using small hootchies/flasher setup.
Since the lake is very very clear you want to let out at least 100ft of line out before attatching to the downrigger,if its not too crowded.A longer pole 9ft+ with a sensitive tip is best since they can be light biters

No downriggers but fishinder:
Look for the same areas as above but also look for rock spires, ledges /dropoffs .Use large jigs such as Pt Wilson darts ,buzzbombs,crippled herring ..... in 4-6oz size and jig .You can also wind/motor mooch with herring or anchovies

Okay

None of the above equipment:look at shoreline structure and fish accordingly,steep shoreline=deep water ,flat shoreline=shallower water,humpy/knolly shoreline=the same underwater and fish/jigs or bait ,cast out heavy spoons that have a good flutter action like they use up in the Canadian lakes.

kokanee: I would just try what you would normally do for them,ask around to see what depth they are at.

Burbot:I am not sure if you can still use set lines for them but we used to set up on a flat area about 80-100ft deep and tie on about 12 hooks with worms or chunks of herring.We would drop them off the boat then let line out as we went to the shore.Then let it sit overnite.

Trout: always good fishing off the creek mouths ,from shore or just trolling or casting around the structure and shoreline.

You can also head up the forest service road into the upper reaches of the Entiat river basin and fish the river,creeks or even hike into some of the lakes there.

You can also drive over to the Manson area and fish a couple of the lakes over there.
Be sure to check the regs because I am not to sure on the rules for the area since its been a few years for me.

Dang bro....you are the freakin man! I have an ok fishfinder, and I was thinking of putting downriggers on my boat, I usually just fish for trout, but knowing that there's a chance to grab a salmon, I might have to consider it! I'll be shooting you a PM when I get close to going out there.

LOL that's cuz it's in the dead of summer, and during the weekends.

I find the best time to camp, is right before school gets out, after labor day and during the week. So peaceful.:batman:

I totally agree. We already have our campsite reserved for the weekend after Labor Day. Deception Pass St Park. Fresh Water Fishing, Salt Water Fishing, Swimming, Hiking..... Good times.

the gf wants to go there one day. how is it? fishing from shore wise. do not know a single thing around there.
