Those hybrid SUV's/pickups tack on a LOT of extra $cheese$ though....I don't know if you ever make up the difference in gas saved....
Toyota's a good option Marc....I like Chevy's, but those Japanese cars just seem to run forever compared to European/American cars....

Hey Marc,
Don't you need a Ford full-sized pickup just to haul your fish home???

How far is it to your work? I used to bike roughly 20 miles each way but I moved this weekend and it is now down to about 12.5. For me that means that instead of an hour and a half to bike and or an hour and 45 minutes to bus I am down to less than an hour to bike (though there are some really nasty hill climbs throughout the ride and no real long straightaways I can get good speed and maintain it). Anyway no matter how far you live...biking is still possible especially if you use it in conjuction with the bus (also assuming that you employer has a shower/locker room for you)Gringo Pescador wrote:I would bike to work, but then I would have to leave for work on Sunday to get to work on Monday.bel83 wrote:Call me a bike advocate but I say everyone should look into walking/biking to work. Saves on gas for you, keeps you from giving money to the oil companies, helps the environment, and helps to beat america's couch potato lisfestyle. Kill 4 birds with one stone!
... I just hope that prices drop in the next few years or no one will be boating and fishing!Sell my house and move closer? Can't afford the home prices. One thing is for sure, I will continue to boat/fish as long as I can row/cast:cheers:
good luck to everyone squeezing the dollar, I know I have even had to change my ways with the increased commodity prices lately and the new rent is $250 more than the old.

Sam- I have looked into Toyota, but to get a full size bed, they still have seating in the back. I really don't need the extra seating and in getting a Tundra with a full bed, it will not fit in my garage. Also with the long bed, the cost is way over my budget. I have a friend that has a Tundra and really likes it.
Micropterus- I probably could fill up the bed each time out, but the state has that dumb limit on how many fish you can keep and possess.

I will say one thing: long distance driving to lakes is no longer an option. 35 miles to get to Lake Margaret, with fuel prices is not going to happen. That would be 70 miles of driving in just one day from my current residence! Not acceptable in my opinion. Biking, for those that can do this, is one of the better ideas we have. Just be safe, and cautious while riding your bike.bel83 wrote: good luck to everyone squeezing the dollar, I know I have even had to change my ways with the increased commodity prices lately and the new rent is $250 more than the old.

I heard on the news yesterday afternoon that $6.00 a gallon is a real possibility by this fall. Just reporting that will cause the fear and speculation necessary to make it happen!
As for a bike, I'd love to. However, I refuse to put my life in the hands of these idiots I see on the roads today. Besides, many of my fishing holes are not in bike driving range, and those sweet river fish in Idaho and Montana still need to fill the love also!

It looks like you live on the East side. I grew up in Spokane and yes, drivers over there really do not understand the whole "bike commuting" idea. Not to mention that they don't have a good infrastructure set up with limited bus stops, no bike lanes to speak of, and a slightly greater distance to travel between destination. The only thing you have going for you is fewer hills in general! good luck finding an alternative to gas!raffensg64 wrote:I heard on the news yesterday afternoon that $6.00 a gallon is a real possibility by this fall.
