Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Hey AJ's Dad,
I am hoping to finally start adding to this tally when I get over your way in the near future. If you want a ride in my boat while you are waiting on yours let me know. Give me a shout on my phone this week to discuss. Look forward to finally getting back East for some Pike! It has been way too long! Tight Lines, oh and just to let everyone know I just returned from the Columbia River yesterday catching my very first Sturgeon! It was a GREAT Day! Another First to add to the list of others I have always wanted to accomplish!

Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Nate, I sent you a text.
Good news and a lesson learned on my boat issue. The shop said the water in my lower unit was getting in there because I had changed my oil and did not replace the gaskets on the filler and drain screws. A couple of bucks for gaskets and a few more for diagnosis and new oil and I get to pick the boat up in the morning.
More good news. The sod should be down by mid day saturday and I plan to squeeze in a few hours of fishing on sunday
Again!!
Enjoy the lead you have for now Farmer_aa the big dog is about to be back on the water.
Ya Baby!!

Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Got out to Cda Lake today for a few hours and only added one pike to my total. Bringing me to 7 on the year. I better hit some of my can't miss spots if I'm going to do any catching up. A little windy today and the weedbeds are starting to show on the depth finder but not much there yet. landed a 24" trout on a soft plastic frog of all things. LOL He sure was a fighter. Also released 2 decent fat little small mouth bass.
Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Hey that was a heck of a nice trout and not a bad pike to boot! However, I didn't see any sod in the background of that picture.
But I'm moving a lot of dirt, too, and the 580 Super E has been getting some use in my back yard, much to my dear wife's delight! I did catch a real toad last night (pictured in the report 5/18/13), though it wasn't the only big pike I saw (as per the report). The other one could have been a 20, but the ones I DON'T catch always seem bigger than the ones I do. The big one gave a good fight, though, and put on 3 good runs and I fought it under the boat in 4 feet of water about 1/2 the time. Man that was fun!
I'm going to amend my tally, because I'm pretty sure that one of those quick release fish last weekend wasn't touched. So starting at 15 now...
5/18/13 5/19/13
15). 13 lbs, 4 oz, 36" (R) 17). 21" (R) 18). 23" (R)
16). 22" (K) 19). 23" (R) 20). 23" (R)
I was just looking at the weather forecast... 25 degrees here on Wednesday night! I think we'll have some time before the pike get really hot again!

That dirt spot in the photo is a place where we are going to put some rock. The sod is complete and I'm ready to get back on the fishing trail again.
Re: 2013 Pike Tally
well now that I am getting around to it, my fishing trip last week was a blast. I caught 22 pike (biggest being 31 inches on a fish creek spinner which killed the bait after this fish) 2 white bass and a largie and lost a couple other fish. My dad caught about the same numbers wise except he caught a pure strain muskie after 5 casts into the trip (posted on muskie forum) as well as pike (biggest were 33"), white bass, largie, and a walleye that he gave to the fish grinder as it slipped out of his hands while cleaning it.
Also we found a 20+ pound catfish with a white bass in it's throat. Pulled it out and thought it was dead and put it back into the lake when we saw it's fine moving as it was floating. Tried to revive it, but thought it wasn't going to survive so I gave it one good push and down to the deep he went, but it never came back up...even after we passed by the same area 4 hours later....hopefully she made it.....
Had only 14 pike until the last day on the way back home we hit up Box Butte and we caught 17 pike (14 of which came in 1 hour and 20 minute time span). No biggin's out of this lake, just eaters witht he biggest being 23 inches. As it turns out as we were by the fish cleaning station a guy came off the lake and asked if we had seen the tornado that touched down about 1 mile north of us. I could barely see where it might have spawned and thought the guy was just mistaking blowing dust until I got into the truck and heard the tornado warning for our area. All in all great trip. that brings me to 27 pike on the year...

Hey Pike Fans!
So I finally got to come over to Eastern Washington and Idaho to hit the Lakes. While over on the East side the last couple days with a great buddy of mine I was able to enjoy a last West Hurra before He transferred back to the East Coast. Our main objective was getting into some Northern Pike! First Day I guess you could say it was just a good warmup to get an idea of where we didn't want to be, at least we got to see some GREAT Scenery! Second Day started out tough but then we found a few Pike, unfortunately my buddies got off before He could get it to the boat. Then I was able to finally get my first of 2013! A nice 25 inch on a 6 inch Perch Savage Gear Swimbait. Then our luck the weather turned really bad and we decided it would be safer to call it a day and a trip and we were better off not risking continuing to fish. Plus it was time for my buddy to get on the road and start heading East! It was a memorable trip and one that I will look back on and remember the opportunities for a lifetime. I am certainly learning every time I go out that sometimes it is more than just fishing that makes a trip what it is. The best part of this trip was that my buddies Mom came with us and I got to show her a little piece of Heaven that she had never seen or been to before the other day. She has lived in the South her whole life so this was eye opening and amazing for her to get to enjoy! So to my buddy and his Mom, Thanks for coming out and letting me be a part of a memorable experience I will never forget. So for the Pike Tally, put me in for 1 Pike at 25 inches!

"Inching ever so slightly along"
Man I had a tough day yesterday. I fished the chain lakes all day from 6:15 am to 5:45pm when the weather got nasty. I caught one nice crappie on a #12 x rap and two very small pike. I missed one fish in the 30" range at the end of the day. He didn't hit the bait, he just came a hundred miles and hour at the last second and turned away right at the bait. Go figure.
A two fish day brings me to a measley 9 pike on the year.
I gotta get this ball rolling.

Re: 2013 Pike Tally
^ I hear ya man. Took my girls to Rose in hopes to get some Pike/Bass/Crappie. No Crappie, couple Perch, 4 Bass, 5 Pike on only 3 landed, little guys to boot. Youngest hooked what looked to be a 24+" pike on her barbie pole with a beetle spin. As soon as it saw the boat it bit the line. Tough tough fishing. Did not see one other boat land a fish with the exception of a few bluegill. The gal at the boat inspection said nobody was catching fish that day.
Won't be chasing pike for a while since I leave for Cali. on Friday for 5 days Striper fishing.

Jeekers AJ's Dad, I have caught up to you.... Wait mine are muskies! Only half pike. Does that mean I have 4.5 pike in the net to be in this race?AJ's Dad wrote:"Inching ever so slightly along"

I gotta get this ball rolling.Best part of the weekend though was actually yesterday. Got Mark out on Silver and he got the monkey off his back and boated a 35.5" muskie. Sure put a smile on his face, and I was happy about that! Really glad he got a chance to get out.
Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Really....nobody has caught pike this week? What the hell is the matter with you folks? I thought I would have been surpassed by mid this week....

Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Okay, I got out Sunday and put in a decent day on the water between fast trips to shelter before storms passing through. It was kind of a post-spawn situation with lots of small pike around and lots of short strikes or misses that I believe were mostly from small fish. I did have one big boil that must have just turned at the last second, but nothing big, mostly jacks, with one female of 25.5" being the biggest. My fishing partner boated three and lost several others, and I boated 5 and lost a few and had lots of short strikes and half-hearted feeding attempts. An empty stomach and an empty egg sack on the one I kept. So now to the tally...

North Idaho Pike Angler's club has a tournament out of Rocky Point on the south end of Coeur d' Alene on Sunday the 9th, so I'd better hit it before it gets hammered that day! I'll probably drop by the weigh in and see how they all fared. Good luck!

Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Is this still an active thread or did you all quit fishing?
6/8/13 - I fished for a little more than an hour on Saturday night and caught 5 pike plus two quick releases right by the boat. I fished for an hour Sunday morning and missed a few, but they weren't as aggressive as they were in the evening. I didn't stay for the NIPA weigh-in but my dad saw it and said that the big bag was a 4 fish 40+ lb creel with the kicker fish being a 42"er weighing 24 lbs! I didn't do anything near that good, but here are the numbers...

Oh it's still active, but getting out to fish has been difficult for me. I am hoping to get out this weekend.

Re: 2013 Pike Tally
Hey AJ's Dad!
Saw your report about getting 10 Pike on the Chain Lakes, so what is the Tally up to now? Sounds like 4th of July weekend might be a great time to get into some good Pike. Maybe I will have to make a special appearance! Who knows I might even start a little early and hit South Dakota and Montana as well!
No I am not cheating, just taking advantage of the opportunity since it is a long drive back to Washington! Keep the numbers going, I am certainly interested in possibly picking up a Fly Rod and Reel to come back over and use to see if I can pull a Doug! If you haven't heard the story I will let Lucius give you the 411 on that, talk about killing it! Well Tight Lines!
Nate
