1) What is the biggest fish you have ever caught.
Either a 33 pound King (Illwaco) or a 53-inch sturgeon (Chehalis River near Montesano)

2) What is your favorite body (bodies) of water to fish?
River: Toutle, Saltwater: Westport Jetty, Lake: Offut Lake

3) What is your favorite species to fish for?
Salmonids in general.

4) What is the most embarressing moment you have had while fishing?
Broke a very expensive pole over my knee several times after losing a sizable salmon when I was in high school.

5) Ever been too drunk to fish? (stealing this from Jeff Foxworthy... You might be a redneck)
No; I don't drink when I fish.

6) Do you like to fish alone, or with a partner?
I like to mix it up.

Depends on species. I like shore for salmon, boat for warmwater fish.

8) First fishing memory? Where did you go?
Catching trout on a bobber at Borst Park Pond in Centralia.

9) Are you a competitive fisherman? (does it annoy you to be outfished?)
Depends on the partner (like if we have a bet going), but 99% of the time no.

10) Best fishing experience you have ever had?
Catching a 6 pound trout of Borst Park with my now-estranged father (I was 6 and got to be in the local paper).

11) Keep fish or release them?
80% release, 20% keep. Selective harvest when fishing to eat.

12) Worst experience fishing?
See 4 (I acted like a chump).

13) Ever fallen out of the boat or into a body of water while fishing?
Yes. I average about a fall a year.

14) Do you own a fishing boat?
Two smaller fiberglass ones. An 8-foot Livingston and 15-foot Columbia powered by a mighty 5.5 hp 1959 Johnson Seahorse. Now I just need to buy a decent truck.

15) Fly fishing or spinning reel?
Spinning 95% of the time.

16) How often are you able to get out on the water?
Varies monthly; probably 30-40 times a year.

17) Do you prefer lures or bait?
Lures

18) Ugliest fish ever caught?
Ratfish out of Hoodscanal.

19) Most attractive fish ever caught?
A two-pound trout I pulled out of Rogue River, Oregon.

20) Most unexpected fish you've ever caught? (IE catching a carp while fishing for trout)
3 pound bass while fishing for panfish with little hunks of nightcrawler.

21) Ever exagerated a fishing trip? (we're probably all guilty)
I'm sure I have.

22) What is the weirdest (non animal) thing that you have ever drug in while fishing?
Nothing too weird, probably an old beer can or something.

1) What is the biggest fish you have ever caught.
A) 12 lb King in Puget Sound.

2) What is your favorite body (bodies) of water to fish?
A) Lakes without houses around them, Salt Water.

3) What is your favorite species to fish for?
A) Trout, Salmon, Cod, Halibut.

4) What is the most embarrassing moment you have had while fishing?
A) Almost fell out of a small lake boat I was in. My work buddies were in a larger boat about
100 feet away when it happened. My wife still laughs about it to this day

5) Ever been too drunk to fish? (stealing this from Jeff Foxworthy... You might be a redneck)
A) No.

6) Do you like to fish alone, or with a partner?
A) Mostly with a partner but sometimes it’s nice to fish alone.

7) Boats or fishing from the bank?
A) Boats.

8) First fishing memory? Where did you go?
A) Salmon Lake, located in Canada on the Douglas Ranch, fly only fishery. We went there often
growing up. Great Lake, large wild trout.

A) Once while fishing under the oil docks in Edmonds as a high school aged kid, I hooked a
Huge mess of tubes that contained tube worms. We must have caught a hundred large perch
That trip. We lucked out. I also caught an ultra light combo off the bottom of Jameson Lake several years ago. It
was like brand new. Still have it.

1) What is the biggest fish you have ever caught. 59" sturgeon

2) What is your favorite body (bodies) of water to fish? Any place I have not been to yet - I love to fish out of the way places.

3) What is your favorite species to fish for? Tough question. I kind of go in spurts, preferring to fly fish for trout, then anything for bass, than some good ole Catfish at night, then perhaps some Tigers or Pike. I just like to catch them all.

4) What is the most embarrassing moment you have had while fishing? I drove about 50 miles of of Billings Montana, to a place where I saw no one, and proceeded to lock my keys in my van. I ended up breaking out a side window that time to get home.

5) Ever been too drunk to fish? (stealing this from Jeff Foxworthy... You might be a redneck) No, I don't drink and I don't permit anyone fishing with me to drink either.

6) Do you like to fish alone, or with a partner? I don't mind fishing with friends, but if I am really stressed out and need to feel one with nature, I leave the partner at home.

7) Boats or fishing from the bank? Both are tools, and I use the right tool for the right job.

8) First fishing memory? Where did you go? Mom tells me that I was still in diapers when I started fishing with Dad. My first memories are of kind of blurred, but I seem to recall trying to catch a waterdog out of my dad's bait bucket.

9) Are you a competitive fisherman? (does it annoy you to be outfished?) If I am with a friend, or a new partner, I feel like I am forced to act the part of a guide. I feel an obligation to get them into fish, and anything I get is a bonus. If I am by myself, I sure do like catching as many as I can. My wife claims I fish "combat style", never letting the water dry on my line before the next cast, and never letting the fish rest - but I don't think that is necessarily competitive.

10) Best fishing experience you have ever had? I have too many to recall them all, so I will have to say the next trip is my best. If not that one, then the one after that.

11) Keep fish or release them? Good question. The year before I got married I was determined to catch 1000 fish in a year. I kept number 1001 and ate it (a nice LM Bass), but the others went free. My wife wants me to bring home fish all of the time, so we compromise. I try to bring home walleye, a few smaller trout, and some catfish, but I try to release most of them. I'd say I bring home maybe 1 in 20 fish.

12) Worst experience fishing? OK, I'm not sure this qualifies, but when I was about 10 we had a trip planned to a mountain lake in Southern Utah. I loved to go fishing so when I got an ear infection, I was not going to tell mom and dad. Mom caught me crying in the bathroom just before we left, forced me to tell her what was wrong, and the trip got canceled so she could take me to the doctor. As far as I am concerned, not being able to go fishing was the "worst experience" possible.

13) Ever fallen out of the boat or into a body of water while fishing? No, I don't swim very well, so I am extra careful. I have almost fallen out when the boat started to drift away from a dock when I forgot to tie it off, but when I jumped I managed to just get in - broke two ribs on the deck rail.

14) Do you own a fishing boat? Yes, and a pontoon, and just gave my two float tubes to my Son and his Wife.

15) Fly fishing or spinning reel? Again, these are just tools, and I use the right tool for the right job. I do find that given a choice, my flyrods seems to get more fishing time than my spinning or bait casting rods(ssssssssss).

16) How often are you able to get out on the water? This depends on so many things. When work permits, I try to go out about every other week on average. One time I was working out of town near a river and I floated and fly fished the river 4 nights a week for an entire summer after work. One year I was working 5/10s and I only made it out about a half dozen times the entire year.

17) Do you prefer lures or bait? I prefer lures, but I will use bait if required. I used shrimp on a steelhead trip this last winter, but I don't remember using bait at all last year. The year before I hit the Channel Cats pretty hard, and I used bait a lot.

18) Ugliest fish ever caught? Wow, I'm not sure. I hate the feel and smell of a tench, or a Squawfish. I hate the looks of a carp, but mostly because I know the damage they do to the body of water. I remember catching a 9" or so Sculpin in the South Fork of the Boise River in Idaho when I was a teenager (didn't even know what it was at the time), so I guess I'll say that.

19) Most attractive fish ever caught? Again, a hard question. I love the color of a fresh Grayling. A Brook Trout in spawning colors is awesome. A California Golden or a Gila River (Apache) trout can be a sight to behold. A Colorado Green Back Cutthroat is pretty cool as well. I've caught them all, and I don't know that I can pick a favorite.

20) Most unexpected fish you've ever caught? (IE catching a carp while fishing for trout) I once caught a 7# Channel Catfish while trolling crankbaits for Walleye in Colorado.

21) Ever exaggerated a fishing trip? (we're probably all guilty) Not really, at least not that I can remember. If anything, I tend to understate the trip so I don't get a lot of people asking me to take them out. I have a F & W manager that wants me to take him now because he saw some Browns I had brought home for a party meal after my last Grandson was blessed and named.

22) What is the weirdest (non animal) thing that you have ever drug in while fishing? I don't know. I have caught the rocks, nailed the twigs, hauled in someone else's lost fishing rod, but I guess that I don't consider them all that weird.

OK, so now you know too much about me.:-$
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

Alright buddy, you shouldn't have brought it up if you didn't want to tell the story, and now you have our curiosity. We've got to hear the moose story. How does one hook a moose??????????? I know my curiosity level is up!

I just realized my answer for #22 was supposed to be a non-animal. #-o I guess my answer would be a lawn chair (one of the cheap ones with the thin nylon fabric mesh seats and aluminum frame.)

Anyway here's the story:

On a Boy Scout father-son canoe trip in the BWCA we were in a cove on Basswood Lake trying to catch dinner. I cast my line out to the shore thinking I would try and bump into what appeared to be a log or rock ten or so feet out from the shore (keep in mind it was dusk and we were following the shoreline on our approach.) Well no sooner after I felt strong resistance on my retrieval did we hear the most god-awful sound and flurry of commotion in the water. The structure suddenly revealed itself to be a moose as its head swung up from the water (it was either bathing or feeding?) and began making its way towards us... :pale: I honestly think I wet myself.
Looking back, I still can't figure out how I didn't lose my pole in all the commotion. In retrospect I think the moose probably saw as a threat to its calves more than it was angry about getting hooked. We couldn't paddle away fast enough to avoid getting away unscathed; my close friend got slammed pretty hard in the head by the rack and the canoe near tipped over from the sideswiping force to him. After two swipes it calmed down and lets continue our rapid exodus from the scene having accomplished its task of scaring the heck out of us and making us leave the area. The great thing about Boy Scouts is there always seems to be a fairly diverse cross-section of fathers around; in our case we happened to have an ex-Army medic who was able to stitch up my friend using a sterilized barbless fish hook and sewing thread. Bruised pride, sore bodies, and quite a few stitches later we called it an early night.
