Swakane Canyon Fire (Weatchee)

Post by Big D » Sun Jul 11, 2010 5:26 pm

Last night’s report was that the fire was running about 4500 acres. Right now the wind is blowing 20 to 30 mph and we've got high wind warnings predicted for tomorrow. Looks like it’s going be a great year for the fire fighters with lots of over time. Stay safe out there guys and gals.

Looking South West from the top of Pine Canyon (Waterville) about fifteen miles from the fire.

Looking downriver from Hwy 97 towards Turtle Rock. Wenatchee is on the other side of the smoke.

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.

Here's a night shot. It's a little fuzzy due to the high winds last night.

Wow Big D those are some great pics of a not so great disaster. I take it you live extremly close to the fire. Any word as to what caused the fire. Hope it`s not going to threaten your home.

Hey rjn cajun,
No word on the fire’s cause yet...It's still under investigation. I live quite a ways away from the fire so no danger but I drive by it twice a day on the way to and from work. As of tonight, no houses have been lost. My wife heard on the radio that the fire is now over 11,000 acres.

Be safe out there. Western Wa fire departments sent a convoy that way a few days ago.
The recent reports state that the crew are getting the upper hand.

On my drive home this morning all you could see from Hwy 97 was a couple of small spot fires. I hear the wind is pushing it in a westerly direction and the acreage was running just over 12,500.

coming back monday from fishing rufus woods and roosevelt lake, we stopped at the mini-mart in orondo around noon. man, the place was packed with workers and lots of people taking pictures. i got a few shots with my cheesey digital cam. the wind was blowing pretty good and after we passed the main 'body' of fire, i was surprized to see quite a few small 'hot spots' in the canyons closer to wenatchee. the wind must make it a nightmare to fight this fire.
