It's true. Not sure if there's a place that captures all lakes that have a speed limit but several have no wake requirements, 8mph limits or no combustion motor allowed. You might have to google all of the lakes that you are interested in to check.

Many lakes have speed limits, along with a plethora of other restrictions too. I'm pretty sure darn near everyone that has a boaters card or reads the signs at the boat ramp knows this. The first step is to be aware of your surroundings and taking the time to read the giant signs posted at the boat ramps. The giant signs will tell you all you need to know about the rules of the lake. To make things even more difficult for the non-reading segment of our populace many lakes have time dependent speed limits and others have restricted or time dependent activities. One of the joys of reading is in many cases it can help you buck the line at the ramp, if you know the rules of the launch, you can use them to your advantage. It can really make launching a pleasure.

The areas in question are in the no wake zones. Yarrow Bay,Andrews Bay,all bathing beaches,The ship canal is like 3 knots (7 mph). On lake Wa there are bouys marking the no wake zones. On and around Mercedes Island is all a no wake zone. Out in the lake itself there is no speed limit . I see boats flying in some areas.

I do read the big signs posted... I know about the no wake zones... That is not what I'm talking about... What I'm asking about is the max speed on Lakes... I was told that American lake's max limit is 45mph... but i can't find anything on line about a max speed for any lakes in Washington... Am I missing something??? I know Lake Sawyer has it posted...

Usually if the lake has a speed limit its posted at the launch. Some lakes don't have them. Thats why all the donzi's and formula's go down to lake washington to blow the carbon out of their motors. 120 in a boat anyone?

Any extra rules will be posted at the launch. If it's not posted at the launch, it's not law. Just like on the road if a speed limit sign's not there, the verbal speed limits not valid. If the sign doesn't have the RCW,WAC or the County, City posted on the sign, it doesn't hold water. I have found over the years, most Judges are not happy about having their time wasted by police officers that are pulling stuff out their @$$es. "Show me", would be the phrase of the day. "Please show me, it's got to be on one of the two signs, I will be taking a picture of both of them." American Lake only has two launches, the County and WDFW. On more than one occasion I've had a Judge toss out every one of an officers tickets for that sort of behavior.
