kicker size

Post by chongo469 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 9:42 am

So I have not gotten a kicker yet for my boat. I was wondering what size I would need for side drifting, trolling, etc. For my 18' mod V Jon boat. The boat is almost flat bottomed and the weight is around 1000 lbs. Loaded..... Will a 6 hp be enough... Trying to keep total weight down...

I'd look long and hard at the Tohatsu 6hp sail pro. It's an awesome motor, it'll push your boat with authority. I know a couple guys that use them on their 24' (Big) jetboats for lake trolling. About $1500, the best part is they have a charging circuit so keep your batts up and or run and auto pilot..... TR1

Im looking at used right now.... Those do look sweet, just cant pony up that much $$$ right now..... I have found a few 6-8 HP 2 strokes and just wondering if it will push well enough for trolling and do well for side drifting..... In the past month, I have bought a new boat, new travel trailer and my wife a new Toyota 4 Runner..... Gotta wait till next year for a major purchase.... right now I am looking at 500-700 for a kicker just to get me on the river this year...

Yeah, I hear ya. And a little one is a never ending expense. 6 should do it, as would an 8.

If you are interested, I have an 8hp Honda short shaft with the charging cord and tank I'd let go for $600. I've had it for about 10 years and put probably less than 100 hours on it, but I don't know its previous history to me. It's an early 90's model. It's always started in 1-2 pulls.
