BC sockeye
So the lucky folks up in BC on the Fraser river are expecting up to 72million of them back this year! Has anyone gone up and fished this river, how hard is it to get a BC liencse? maybe get a WA Lakers' sock club go up for the festivities' ?

Re: BC sockeye
Almost all the sockeye that come through the Straits are heading for the Frazer. It's a big commercial fishery for them. They run every other year off from all the pinks. We don't hear a lot about them because the Sock's are really a purely commercial fishery, they don't bite much in the salt. I was lucky one summer when fishing and we made a set on a big school ended up being over 3,000 fish in one scoop. Very nice payday!

Re: BC sockeye
i fished the fraser and lake sushwap or however its spelled a couple years in the 90's. licence was pretty cheap then. got king salmon and lake trout in the lake. no sockeye though but we saw plenty.
Re: BC sockeye
Yup, fished it in 2010. It was a madhouse. Bouncing betties and 12 foot leaders were the norm
Here is a good map if you plan on heading up. Can't remember the license fee but it was spendy for a non-resident....

Re: BC sockeye
fished it last sunday....it was bonkers and I'm not talking about the fishing. Shoulder to shoulder the whole time and everyone is using 15 to 20 foot leaders. I got a nice 8 lb hen and my buddy got his limit of 2. Between the 30-40 people on the bar we were fishing there were fish constantly on, but apparently it was a bit slower than normal due to netting further down river...wish that amount of fish were in our rivers lol! As for a license you can get a one day for 20$ and it goes up from there. My advice is if you want to go and it is a bit of a trip for you go for the weekend. They have a 3 day license and I think its 50 or 60$, but this would be more worth it in my opinion. I live in blaine and I put almost 160 miles on my car just getting there and back from where we were fishing. If you do go just make sure to bring every bit of patience with you because you will snag up with many a angler and there are boatloads of people. It was a fun experience, but just not my type of fishing...I hate crowds lol and avoid them at all costs if I can. BTW I was fishing above the agassiz bridge around hope. Tons of shore access too.
