Boat bunk bracket supports

Post by The Quadfather » Sun Mar 20, 2016 3:51 pm

About 6 months ago I was all about replacing the wooden bunks on my EZloader trailer. These are the carpeted 2x4's standard issue, not rollers.
The existing bracket that holds the bunk to the trailer, is not sold any more, and they have gone to some other styles.
I purchased what was recommended by a few people, and you will see in the first picture, this type of bracket.

My questions is, that I cannot figure out what type of pin/bolts, or WHATEVER it is that I need to mount this bracket to the trailer itself. I keep coming back to this U-bolt http://www.etrailer.com/Boat-Trailer-Pa ... 283GA.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but yet, I don't see how exactly it is supposed to mount the bracket to the trailer?
Is this even the right thing??

Here are a few pics of the new bracket, and the old system.
I swear that I am over thinking this, or missing the obvious, and I need to do this immediately. ](*,) ](*,)

Thanks for any help

Maybe it bolts to the 2x4, then hangs down like the original, and bolts to the trailer frame's cross beam, same as the original.

Or bolt it to the beam, up against the 2x4, then screw it to the 2x4.

OK, well now I think I realize how screwed up I had this.. I think the bracket is supposed to be mounted vertically as I am holding it in this photo. Then my questions is that it appears that you only run some kind of single bolt with prob. a nylon locking nut through the two holes in the bracket, and thus through the bunk. THEN... the U-bracket that I linked above would go through the bottom of the bracket, and thus through the existing arm of the trailer.

Hope that makes sense.

Quad,

That new piece you have looks nearly identicle to ther part that is corroded. All you need to do is reposition the bracket so the bunk sits "inside" the bracket's ears that has matching holes drilled in it. You'll want to use a hot dipped galvanized bolt, washers and locknut to secure the bracket to the bunk. Leave the braket a little loose so that it hangs down and there should be a couple holes that you can line up with the holes on your triler cross member. Attach those with same bolts as the old bracket, if they are still serviceable, otherwise replace them. Once you have the bracket bolted to the cross member, you can tighten the bolt that runs through the bunk.

Gman, well... I'm not too proud to even post pics of my idiocy online.

As it was figured out, you had it correct, but what was throwing me off was that the old bracket had specific holes cut into it to line up with holes in the trailer, (for through securing bolts)
The new bracket just has one long slit for variable placement of bolts up and down the bracket. Yes, of course you have to run them through corresponding holes in trailer, haha. and just use a large 1" washer to secure the bolt head flush, etc.

OK, I'm off and running again. Time to secure some car jacks to get this thing lifted up. #-o

Once again, Quad, call Ezloader with your vin and take pictures of what you need to replace. They're very nice folks and to quote what they told me is they have every part for every trailer they ever made or one that's close enough to work. When you give them the vin they pull the BOM for your trailer and they know down tot he nuts and bolts used exactly what you have. I know everyone wants to DIY with parts list off the web and looking at pictures. Don't, call them with the vin and they will have the exact parts you need to fix the trailer coming to you in short order. When I had my tire blow out they had the parts coming from Spokane in under 24 hours.

It's too easy not to do it.

I would only wonder if there isn't some sort of special washer or plate to lock and hold the bracket in place on the trailer by engaging into what appear to be dimples, or maybe the dimples are there to help keep bracket from sliding when tightened against the cross member making my first thought moot.....
