Does anyone know how I should target these fish when fishing a lake from shore?
Does anyone know where there are healthy populations of Dolly Varden/Bull trout

Of course you probably already know that this species is protected, i.e. endangered except in waters where said so, so just be careful in that. :-)

The way the Feds define things is the Puyallup river and south is bull trout land. Bulls are federally protected.
The Snohomish system and north is dolly land. I'm not up on the 2008 regs but it was such that dollies in the Snohomish system and the Skagit system could be retained. Check the regs for the specific rivers. I have caught dollies on the Sky, the Skagit and the Cascade.
Don't target bull trout or you will get in trouble.

They are more often found in rivers...North of here usually...They are usually picked up using similar steelhead methods...
Don't chase reports...Be the report others chase....

Whats the diffrence between the two species? It seems like the WDFW kind of lumps the two species together.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. It's my understanding that a Dolly Varden is the sea-run version of a bull trout. Is this correct? I'm an eastside guy with zero experience with the two.
