Need help choosing a boat

You really can't go wrong with any 12' long Jon boat in good overall condition...check Craigslist on a daily basis and report back here with your link and pics and then members can go ahead and help you. You need to be quick on these boats and they sell FAST and the first one gets it usually, so be quick and be ready to pull the trigger on the right boat...know what you want and then go for it!

Remember you can always add seats and other things to it later. You will probably have your boat for quite some time and you will always find something else you want to add to it.
I bought my Smokercraft new, it came with swivel seats, rod holders, ready to hit the water. First time out I had a list of things I wanted to add to it. It never ends.

Livingston's are excellent boats! I have never owned one, but they slice through the water and handle very well in rougher water...my neighbor has an old 15' Livingston with an older 1990's 50HP Evinrude...that boat rocks...and yes, you will always add things to your new boat! They are STABLE and very SAFE. If you are using it for area lakes...awesome boat...you can't go wrong. If you want to use it in the saltwater, be careful and upscale the size to perhaps 14-17.'..but knowing your budget...go with the Livingston! Great boats!

Dude, yes, very much so. Pull the trigga Capt.:rambo: Your trolling motor will fit nicely. Just make sure YOU love the boat and are comfortable fishing out of it -- there is nothing like not enjoying fishing out of a boat you just bought...that's why I love trying a few out (test ridin' a few) before I purchase.

Way too much. A 30lb thrust should do plenty good...

The 55 would be OK. An electric will not over power a boat. But having a bigger electric like the 55 can give you better control when the wind blows.

There's nothing wrong with overpowering it, but I have a 30lb thrust on my 12 Lund and I really only have speeds 1 and 2 for trolling. 3 is good for going into stiff wind, 4 and 5 are just way too fast.

You just might lose a trolling speed going up to a 55lb thrust. But since you already have a motor, why not keep it...

Bingo. This could go on forever. Just make sure you are HAPPY and COMFORTABLE. The trolling motor will fit nicely...you can always power down, and you can use the extra power when the wind kicks up...

well that was the motor me and jt used when we went on beaver and trolled on speed one and i could always use the bucket thing
