RE:Wedding rings.......Pop gear
If you are trolling deep via a downrigger one thing you can do is hang the flashers off the downrigger ball and just run a clip off the wire above the ball with your lure clipped in separate from the flashers.
We do this in saltwater all the time.

RE:Wedding rings.......Pop gear
I fish these with a sliding weight above the swivel. You can put as much lead on as needed I stick to 1/8 - 1/4 oz. and put it out 30 or so feet. All depends on where the fish are if up high I some times cast a short ways out and let out 3 seconds of line if I'm drifting them on windy days I go to 1/4 oz and 2 reels off bottom.kzoo wrote:Do u guys put any weight on wedding rings? I'm trying to fish for some holdovers at Green Lake right now. We have to paddle, "motors prohibited". How much line do u usually let out? Speed? Any advice would be most appreciated.
GO WITH BIGGER BLADES if you are going slower but I switch to smaller lures as water warms or faster speeds.

Just a 1/2 oz egg weight is what I use. What you should do is take the weeding ring apart and string in on 4lb test instead of theat 15lb stuff they use. Or just do what I do and buy the beeds, blades and clevises and make them yourself for a fraction of the price. 20 pulls of line off the reel will put you where you want to be
RE:Wedding rings.......Pop gear
Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. Do u guys put a second hook for the worm? Or can you thread the worm to have the hook further back on the worm?

By using a medium or large size spinner or spoon ahead of the W.R., Lure or even a Fly gives you a little weight.
I also tie the flash gear to the downrigger weight & tie the release above it. I have been playing with a simple drop line to use even more pop gear behind the boat, but I think it might be overkill or cause a problem when landing fish. I love to expierment with all this STUFF & have just as much fun doing that as catching the fish!

Negative. I use one hook only.kzoo wrote:Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. Do u guys put a second hook for the worm? Or can you thread the worm to have the hook further back on the worm?
I just use about a half inch section of a worm, stick that on the lure, let line out and start trolling...

Yep...that's how I do it...fishingmachine uses two hooks and I guess he does well, but the one hook with the 1/2 worm is the best...Sam Kafelafish wrote:

Hey Guys, thanks for the info of wedding rings. I gave it a shot at my local lake and got a bunch of bites. Got two holdovers and several stockers. Can't wait to try it again. Thanks a bunch!

I use a medicine bottle and wrap the line around them with the WR in side.Works for me!!

I've always had a problem storing them. That could be it too.......

Rob, I fish with vintage fishing gear at times......Ever try a Hurd Super Caster or a old Langley with a metal Pole... It's fun being a little out of the norm.....My gold fish are a little tired of being caught......Anytime anywhere!!fishing collector wrote:I use a medicine bottle and wrap the line around them with the WR in side.Works for me!!Rob G. wrote:those are all very compelling coments....I know they're are effective and I should'nt care as long as they catch fish...I don't know....I guess I'm just one of those guys that doesn't like doin' what's popular. RE:Wedding rings.......Pop gear
GPC... Have you ever used a large spoon like a Canadian Wonder as a small flasher? Thought I'd Try it>>> Stevegpc wrote:I hate trolling pop gear. But I dont go trolling w/o it in the box, just in case. I prefer small dodgers over pop gear. I do have some ultra light pop gear wich only has 3 small blades on it. I have only used it 1 time and did catch a nice trout.
Wedding rings are great lures and will put fish in the boat. But I just dont like using them because evry time you get a bite, you have to reel in and make sure your worm is still there, and it never is, so going threw 3 or 4 dozen worms in a weekend is pretty much the norm, if all you troll is wedding rings.

Hint: Small canadian wonders catch trout just fine by themselves. I have the small size that's about the size of a size 2 Dick Nite, sure does catch fish....fishing collector wrote:GPC... I don't really love doing all the flasher stuff for trout. I mean, it would work, but I have found that it just ruins the fight and either doesn't help or makes the catching worse...
Nothings better then hooking into an 18 inch trout on 4 or 6lb test and on a 6'6" ultralight with nothing more then a small weight on your line. Especially trolling. Them just slamming that lure is just an awesome rush, and they will put your drag to use..
