Great weekend!!!

Post by fishaholictaz » Sun May 18, 2008 8:43 pm

Well I had one of the best weekends ever! I took my sons out fishing on Offut Friday and Saturday and had a blast:cheers:

Friday I started out with my four year old trolling wedding rings and he hooked into a 1.4 pound trip. with was the biggest fish up until Saturday!

Saturday I had the chance to take both boys out and we hit the little grassy area at the resort. I casted out two poles one for each kid. Within ten minutes we had missed our first two bites... 10 minutes we lost our first two hooked fish.... 10 minutes later
my two year old son's pole was going straight for the lake!#-o With some fast action I got a hold of the pole and was trying to get my son's attention thinking it was a little fish:-" Well I soon learned that assumptions are bad!! I had just hooked a 3.9 pounder on a six foot Lamaglas noodle rod with a 100 feet of line for my two year old to reel in ](*,) [-x Well after a little yelling I got my son over to me (after almost being spooled twice) and I got to help him land his third trout ever!! :thumleft:
Big brother was not happy that a rookie had just out fished him and did not want to leave until he had caught a bigger one](*,)

Sunday I got to chase a few bass with Sparky and talk to Skimpy in the morning and go pick up my son's pole in the afternoon!! Well the rod was 7 foot light action spinning rod from Ron's Custom Rods with a 10 ball bearing California tackle reel :compress: (If any body knows these companies let me know please)

Here are a few pictures I will have more soon:cheers:

Congrats. Does your son have a better pole than you? Nice work...I enjoy hearing stories of getting the kids involved.

Good job man. I went fishing for bows last week with my cousin and his three year old kid. I didn't realize how much of a handfull little kids can be while fishing. We were both taking turns chasing that little girl around. Needless to say, we weren't able to focus as much as we would have wished on actually 'fishing.'

Sweet pics TAZ...and that first photo is priceless! Cute kid!! Dude, I said it once, and I'll say it again, kudos to you. So many fathers don't take their kids out to do anything, let alone fishing. You are a class act! Nice pictures and sweet write-up. I was on the edge of my seat when you were going through the whole "almost got spooled twice" line...whew! Amazing weekend for you, and I'm so glad the weather cooperated but most importantly your kids got to get out and enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with their father...I know too many situations where this is certainly NOT the case. Positive stuff!!!

I don't think the two year old will remember#-o I wish that fish would have bit my oldest son's pole he is still upset and it would have been a even better memory for him. My oldest is the best fishing partner ever he never complains unless little brother out fishes him or it is time to go home.

The best thing about my childhood was my dad taking me fishing all the time. Glad you are doing the same and WOW, very nice fish. My life is better because I grew up fishing and to this day do it when ever I can which is often. Well done....

Looks like you had a great weekend. Kudos to you for bringing the kids along.

I've been bringing my 3yr old niece along for the last few trips...it can get frustrating with her extremely short attention span, but it is well worth it to see the excitement of bringing a fish in. She caught her first fish this weekend, an 11" rainbow....she was smiling from ear to ear all weekend telling everyone about her first fish.

I just have to echo on what Dave says... I didn't have much of a relationship with my father, but to this day all my coolest stories about trips to lakes, and this/that or whatever happened is all back from hiking into lakes fishing with the old man.
Sometimes I'll be with another adult and talking about.... "Oh man, one time we caught 30 trout up here"
Then I stop and think... and it was like 1974, and I was fishing with pops.:bounce:

I hope your boy enjoys his rod. I also got a rod from Ron's Custom Rods when I won a fishing derby when I was a child. It's an awesome pole, because 1) its awesome and 2) it makes my pops jealous!
