Eagle Cuda 168 Fish Finder - Opinions?

Post by dilbert » Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:28 pm

Does anyone have any experience with the Eagle Cuda 168 Fish Finder? I can get this (basically for free) through the awards program with my employer, but I was wondering it it's worth it or should I save my points.

Basically I'd like something for lake fishing in my 13' aluminum boat that could tell me depth, show bottom contour and structure, and possibly show a fish or two.

If I'm looking at a fishing product I always go to BassPro or Cabelas and look up the product. Read the reviews written by purchasers of the product to get a better idea.

Thanks for the tip. I actually already read the reviews at both those places, and they were all quite positive. :fish: I was just looking to see if any of the hard core anglers here had any more info or advice about the unit or even fish finders in general.

It is the best $69-75 entry level depth finder you can possibly get ever! Really its a good little unit, I have one for my jon boat. You should get the trolling motor transducer mount instead of trying to hook it up on your transom.

I have a transom mounted trolling motor. Will it cause any problems if I mount the transducer on the rear mounted trolling motor? I usually fish from the back of the boat anyway so I can operate the motor (still working on training the 2 year old to steer).

dilbert, i'm awful grateful for your post. and danielT, thanks for the endorsement. it occurred to me to check our rewards program and sure enough... that fishfinder was an option. by chance does your employer also go through the website "awardhq.com"?

i went ahead and ordered it last night, free was all the excuse i needed to give it a try. my wife doesn't know how close she came to getting diamond earrings. ;-)

TroutCowboy, our award program goes through a company page that hides the true identity of the award vendor.

I ordered mine this morning and it said "usually ships within 21 days":-s Oh well, I guess I can wait.

Got it last year through the awards program (makes me think - "wonder if I have run into you in the hallway...). I have a 10' widebody canoe with a trolling moter mount off the rear side of it. I made an aluminum bracket to mount the transducer on that goes down on the opposite side of the canoe than my trolling motor.

Seems to work pretty good for me - though I have to admit I have nothing to compare it too - But considering the price, and compared to the rest of the crap they have in the "atta boy" catolog, it was well worth it.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

The sonar finally showed up and I got it installed. I used it last weekend in the dummy icon mode. Now that Ive read how to use it properly, I'll give it a real test on the next trip.
