Would you like to see more trophy trout opportunity's on the west side of the state, without the use of triploids?

I'm not sure how to answer that question? Of course it would be nice to see more "Trophy trout" but does it make a difference whether they are trips or not? It does not make a difference to me what variety of trout they are. I will answer the poll with a yes, for having more "Trophy trout" but the triploid part has me confused.

Most westside lakes are really put and take. In lakes where there are inlet/outlet streams where trout could spawn I would prefer Diploids to Triploids as they can reproduce on their own. Lakes without inlet/outlet streams the Diploids load up with eggs and milt, get dark and ugly, and cannot spawn, so some just re-absorb the eggs & sperm into their bodies and others just die. Trips can't spawn but some do color up. All trips think about is their next meal so if there is no opportunity to successfully spawn I'd rather see trips planted.
I think this really comes down to value and cost to produce and raise. Do you want more fish or bigger fish? It costs a lot of money to raise trophy sized trout. Everyone wants big fish and a lot of them, but in todays economic environment you really can't have both. You can have a lot of cheaper and smaller dips or fewer and bigger trips. Myself I prefer fewer and bigger as I'm an experienced fisherman and have acquired the skill set to catch (and release nearly all) trout. I also would say that most beginning or less experienced fishermen would prefer large numbers of fish (with the knowledge that you can't have both big and lots).

Of course bigger trout would be great, especially native, but the only way they'd (non-trips) be allowed to get that big would be to shut down rivers and lakes to fishing for an extended period of time to give the population a chance to grow. Although I'm not against that in selected areas at certain times, that is a lot to ask. Most places are over fished, but also the biology of it is that fish will only grow to the size that the environment will allow.
My Dad and I used to talk about the potential benefit of shutting down Puget Sound to fishing every other year. It'd never be done, but wondered how it would benefit the fish populations. I digress.
I like the C&R only idea, but like trees and elk, I think it helps to selectively thin the "timber/heard" from time to time to allow the others to take advantage of the environment and thrive.

I suppose it's possible to get larger trout on the west side. Spirit Lake and the other one down there are good examples. Personally the largest lake raised trout (west side) was an 18 1/2 inch cutthroat caught out of Ebey Lake up by Arlington.

The video on Spirit showed a bunch of trout in the 20-24 inch range.

I do not count triploid or broodstock trout as "large westside trout".

Yeah, and then somehow find the money to hire the folks to actually enforce the selective reg. rules.
I'm not disagreeing with you on that one A9, but when you have a passttime that you love as much as I do fishing..... it just kills me to go out to Selective reg. lakes like Rattlesnake, and see all the blatant bait fishing.
