Planning on heading out to Rufus Woods sometime in the next month or so for some of those big trout but I will be shore bound, unless someone suggests I take my pontoon out there.
I haven't had my pontoon out on a big lake so I am a bit cautious of this but in the case that I am shore bound, any advice on how I should approach this? Similar to standard trout fishing, ie power egg/bait with leader? spinner/spoons from shore? If I feel confident enough, I may take my fly rod out there but I am completely new to this so not very "comfortable" with this idea.
No need for anything specific, just want to see if anyone else has had great success fishing from shore for these giants.

There is a launch about 100 yards down stream of the upper pens. I'm not sure what sort of deal the launch is but lots of people launch there. You may want to think about an electric as there is a fair amount of water moving.
Of couse there's shore fishing at both both of the upper pens. PB, Prawns, Worms.......... and if you want to catch more than just 2 your fly rod, spinners, jigs, plugs........

Power bait, worm & marsh mellow, egg & marsh mellow, inflated worm or any combination of the four will put you onto some fish. Will you be fishing the Coulee Dam or the Chief Jo end of the river?

Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish goes home through an alley.

Check out the past reports on RW. You will find a lot of good information there, and yes, there is a lot of good shore fishing at RW. The pens area is the normal destination, but the public area on the dam side holds a lot of fish at times, although not always the "big" ones desired.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker
