How old is your outboard?
How old is your outboard?
I just checked the serial number on my old Merc and found out that it's a 1972. It's a 2 cylinder 2 stroke 9.8hp Mercury 110. I'm not sure how much longer it will last, but I keep rebuilding the water pump and it keeps running like a champ. It gets my 13' aluminum up to 20mph with just me and gear and up to 13mph with a fishing partner. When it does finally quit I'll probably get a 25hp for the replacement. :rambo:

Keep her oiled and in water pumps and it should be a long time before you need to replace her. Taken care of they last forever. I've got an Evenrude 35 of the same vintage and it starts on the third pull every time. Also a late 50's Evenrude 6 hp. with the built in tank. Starts right up. Not to many parts in a two stroke.

The outboard on my boat is a 1959 5.5 HP Johnson Seahorse. After it's warm it typically starts on the first pull. Sometimes it'll start up with just one pull even when it's cold. They sure knew how to build em back then.

This is Merc owns parts website. If you punch in your eight digit number it will tell you the year ect. The number should start with the letters OK and then 6 numbers.
