March 1st anybody?

Anybody hitting the George/Quincy area for the opener? I just started doing the March 1st opener 4 years ago, and it has to be my favorite opener. This year all the lakes are ice free, and is supposed to be the best opener in years. Stockers, holdovers, triploids, brown trout, tiger trout, and lohanton cutts, not to mention the warm water species. Fun times

Ya I'm thinking of heading to "Quincy Lake" out on the game range, I've done really well there in past years. Nice trout!

Yep I was there! Too much ice on burk and quincy. Calichi was fun, got to watch bozos launch a boat attached to the trailer and then it took two trucks to pull it out full of water! One of them priceless moments! I did get a little added bonus, I got a bacterial infection on my hands and arms from the water, sort of like swimmers itch only way worse. Fingers puffed like a hand full of brats and my arms broke out and started bleeding.......... Neosporin and cortisone had it calmed down in 24. Needless to say I gave the fish away to some of the local residents; I couldn't eat them after the outbreak. I'm sure they were fine, I couldn't risk touching them again.
Yep next time! They say the project is happening but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I hope they don't wait till Friday to say go.

Not to that area but I'll be at either Medical here in town or at Amber. Probably Amber, which is the most productive of the two. For reasons I can't explain, Medical's fish are sometimes slow starters and don't get to ripping until April. Plus, I'm convinced the density is lower than Amber's. I tried to get an early start on things by trying Sprague the past couple days, but struggled mightily. No worries, though, Amber has a way of healing bruised egos! Good luck to all!

Its a pretty simple fishery over there. If you want non stop action for pan fryers Caliche and Martha is probably what you are looking for. As far as bait for either of these lakes it would be too much work for me type all the baits that would work. Plain and simple ANYTHING you might have in your box will get you a limit, and it usually takes about an hour.

Burke lake will also be a great lake to fish. Usually the fish will be a little bigger but the action not as fast paced. I like 3 power eggs rigged single file on a size 6 gammi octopus hook. Also small Kastmasters will do the trick.

Quincy Lake I know produces but not for me. I have spent quite a few hours fishing it with not even a bite to show for.

Last but not least (well at least of the "main" lakes) is Dusty. If you dont mind a short hike, and like selective gear for some nice fish then you want to hit Dusty. I like throwing jigs and spoons here. Its a 1 mile hike in and 3 miles out. Not really but its all down hill, so on the hike out its all up hill.

If get an ariel view of the area you will see all the lakes and, the possibility are endless. There is a ton of small hike in lakes. There is actually another thread going in the bass forum called hike in bass lakes. They have some maps of the area. It would be very easy to do a short hike and have a lake/pond all to yourself for the opener.

Ya i am the one that started the post about kike in bass lakes cause i am heading over for a camping trip there the first of may. Anyone have any tips on what lake/ponds are better for the bass? Evergreen Res. is the Bass spot. Tigers too. For camping, just get over there and pick a spot, they're everywhere.

Bank or boat? Bank, it's hard to go wrong with PB on two to 3 feet of leader. If you have a boat, trolling a #5 silver flatfish is deadly. Also just about any little black fly is good too, sinking or floating. One year just after the opener I C&R'ed 50+ fish in one day with the flatfish. The south of the border gang with 12 rods each was having a fit while we caught fish all day and let them go. The fish get stuffed on PB after a couple days and don't bite for about a week or so.

So the Evergreeen resavoir i can put my small boat in there? I am going after bass may 1st so the resavoir has no jet skiers right? when i hear reavavoir i think a big body of water. Thanks for all the feed back everyone.

Naw no jetskis or swimmers to worry about. All of the lakes there are reservoirs, this one just happens to have a dam at one end. You can launch just about any boat you want there. If the water is low you may have to back a ways but it's do able.

Thanks GPC for all that info, I will def take it all in and do my best to catch what ever. We'll be there for 2 day, so the possibilities are endless. @ Bodo - we'll be in our lilttle 14ft boat chugging along with a trolling motor. Should be real fun, I almost couldnt go, but friends took care of expenses.
