Eight days of razor clam digging
begins Sunday, April 27
I recommend hitting it on a day with a lighter surf or swell. Last Sunday the surf was hitting the beach pretty hard and the clams didn't show well. I managed a limit though.

Yesterday (Sunday) was fine. On and off rain...but more sun than rain. It actually turned out to be a nice day. They weren't showing all that well again, but me and my buddy both got limits. Then we stuck around and did some perch fishing. They were willing biters yesterday. Between the 2 of us, we got 21 perch. My buddy hit the trifecta of species. His very first cast was a 2.6 lb pile perch! And then he nailed a good size striped perch...and the rest were red tails. All of mine were red tails.

Was a good day yesterday!

Great going! I think that was a 9' swell???? Dig is on for a while longer. Does anyone else think a higher swell might be why the clams don't show well? It was just a thought... Smaller swell as the week progresses...

A quick word of advice. I saw a lot of people down below the water line looking for shows. We had much better luck a bit higher up than the water line. Stomp around in a circle, and then look for obvious circles that sink in, or a bit of air bubbles that come up. It was much easier to make them show a bit higher up above the water line.

We were digging in the Grayland Beach Rd area. They weren't showing great, but once we moved higher up from the water line, it was much easier to get them to show with the above method.

I'm trying to convince my wife to let me go back out on Saturday. It's gonna rain, but the swell forecast looks mighty sweet at this point.

Great, I'm looking forward to next Fall to start it up again. WDFW gives them the summer off to breed. Seriously, that's what they wrote! LOL
