Been a while since I posted, after fishing the Cowlitz with minimal luck ( I need to learn that river some more) I decided my next river I want to try will be the Skook. I tried to look up the regs, but my computer is being stupid and wont let me upload the regs. Could somebody tell me the regs for it and when it opens? Also some tips for catching steel there and where to go. Trying to bag my first steelie before salmon season is in full bloom. Any tips are appreciated.

Pretty sure skook is closed and all the steelhead are gone until next winter

I knew it was closed, but I thought it would get a summer run of steel soon. I guess that's what I get for thinking.

Correct me if i am wrong cause i dont know that much about skook but im like 95% sure it does not get summer runs. Hell i think the rivers probably close to dried up in the summer

From page 48 of the regs, mouth of river to the deadline:

ALL SPECIES - First Sat. in June-Mar. 31: no min. size for adipose fin clipped TROUT. Aug. 16-Nov. 30:
night closure and single-point barbless hooks required.

TROUT First Sat. in June-Apr. 30 Min. size 14". Daily limit 2.
Other Game Fish First Sat. in June-Apr. 30 Statewide min. size/daily limit.

SALMON Oct. 1-Nov. 30 Min. size 12". Daily limit 6. Up to 3 adults may be retained of which
only 2 may be wild COHO. Release CHINOOK and CHUM.

SALMON Dec. 1-Last day in Feb. Min. size 12". Daily limit 6. Up to 2 adults may be retained of which
only 1 may be a wild COHO. Release CHINOOK and CHUM.

Not planted for summer runs. You'll find sea run cutthroat in August, but not many. It doesn't really start up until the coho show up in September, but they don't open until October to protect the kings. Should probably find another stream for your summer outings. You're going to want a full blown hatchery steelhead river. Try the Toutle/Green on the Cowlitz. A little further, but that ones good for a summer run. The Wynoochee is close to home for you too and has a great summer run.

Might try the Wynoochee next. Cheaper on gas, and I think it's closer to my kind of river

Forks rivers get a good summer run too, but I think that would be a longer drive than the Wynoochee or cowlitz for you. Might be better for fishing from the bank, than those 2 rivers though.

I think im going to try the nooch in a few weeks. I was doing some reading on it and the winter bite seems really good, not many summer reports on it but every one I saw they were catching fish. Any tips are appreciated.

Jigs and coon shrimp work good, Bobber and shrimp or eggs is good.. Dont be afraid to throw a spinner out cause they love those as well.

I live in bremenrton and fish the cowlitz for summer runs A LOT because it is worth it, tons of fish that are willing to bite the proper presentation, can't wait till late june, fishing is gonna be OFFDAAHOOK this summer haha. nooch, forks, and skykomish all have good runs though too.

I would fish the Cowlitz more, but I need to learn that river more. Im going to start curing my eggs this year, I need to save up my money to go on a guided trip with Danny or Nate or unless one of them would be kind enough to take me on a free bank trip.
Ill try it again here shortly once the summer runs start to pick up, and ill fish the nooch.
