Has anyone floated the upper part my buddy is new and want to know if its blocked bad or maby a better place that's safer thanks

If youre talking about the skookumchuck, it was completely blocked last year just past the fields. Couple of downed trees with a bunch of brush and logs jammed up. Havent checked yet this year as the trail to that spot has been blocked. The river up above is so small that any tree in the river creates a hazard.

A few guys had a drift boat last year up there. They said they put in at a friends house below the fields off of steelhead circle. Again, assuming you are talking about the Skookumchuck or "skook".

Yes the Skookumchuck sorry I was told about the two bridges up there not shure of the road names

If it's a small pontoon and you're not afraid to bust brush, I've seen guys go down it from the top. Drag your pontoon around the trees. It's a pretty small area, so any tree can create a problem. We used to float from Schafer Park to Riverside, or from B Street to Borst Park in the summer in our kayak or inner tubes, and there weren't any problems in that stretch where it's bigger. A one man toon would be pretty movable if you had to drag it over a log. There is a rough launch in Bucoda at the park that guys drop their drift boats in at, my boat is way too big for that ditch though. If you're new on the sticks, I'd recommend taking a trip down the Wynoochee or somewhere that has more boat traffic so that your first trip doesn't become a bushwhacking nightmare.

I have floated it in a 10' jon boat, but only from the bridge downstream from Johnson Cr. road down to the next bridge on the main road. I walked the fields first, saw too many trees down and decided to go lower. Can't be too careful, good luck.

It depends on the drift. Best way to figuree it out is to check out google maps and use the ruler tool to measure how long it is. Then you'll know how fast you have to fish it.

If you get a chance check the thread "skook lately" it's probally out dated by now but it helped last year when I put my one man pontoon in at the hatchery, I was on pain med's from getin my wisdom teeth pulled a few days before ( shows it's not to bad of a float, probally not very intelagent though) but it was a fun float and made it through in alright shape lots of fish from the hatchery to the first bridge and down. I enjoyed the section of the feilds and Just down stream but that section of water gets really crazy wouldn't try it if your afraid to get soaked or lift you gear over log jams. Try to stay quiet don't be afraid to park your toon. Tight lines.
