SW Washington (Crappie, Bass, Bluegill)

Post by fishman123 » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:27 pm

Has anyone had any luck catching Bass or Crappie out at Silver Lake in Cowlitz county this year? I've tried fishing many of the SW washington lakes so far: Kress, Horseshoe, Klineline, Lacamas, and several small ponds and have not been able to catch any warmwater species yet. The only thing I have been catching are the trout plants.

Give it a little more time for the waters to warm and those species will start moving. Soon, very soon. Keep hitting those lakes up though. Try the smaller ones until Spring gets here and the weather is a little warmer and more consistant.
There are some anglers who frequent those lakes around here and they can give you some good info. on them. They'll hook you up.

They should be warming up soon. I believe Silver is pretty shallow, so that should heat up quick....

the crappie are stacked up in the canals right now at silver lake. when the water temp gets about 5 degrees higher you can find them all over the main lake. i have a bass tourny on the 22nd and will be crappie fishing while im down there as well. last week the water temp was about 45-46 once it gets to the mid 50's the crappie will be getting ready to spawn and will be very easy to catch for about a month. then the bluegill turn on bigtime after that. if you want to get a bunch of bluegill hit timber point or carnine ditch areas. if you need a map of silver pm me your email addy.

SW washington is were i fish, and all the lakes you have listed should start to produce very soon.

Lacamas: for bass, bluegill, and crappie, i would actually skip lacamas and go the the connected lake called Round lake. the water is more shallow, and warms up quickly. try live nightcrawlers, or soft plastics for bass around structure, try small jigs under floats in the deeper pools for crappie, and for bluegill (and perch) fish with a live worm pretty much anywere you think they might be, cuzz they are there.

Klineline: fish the small side pond with floating Rapalas, or cranks to catch numerous bass. bluegill can be caught here with live worms, and crappie are scarce but can be caught.

as for horseshoe and silver i am not sure but i hear that jig n' craw or jig n' pig work very well in silver.
