Those owner hooks have a bigger gauge. That may be why they didn't penetrate as much, you really have to send them home. But even the best of us cracker fish sometimes, so unless it happens every time you use those hooks, it could just be how it goes. I play every fish like it might get away, because it's true. I use owners and we lose fewer fish, and I pour my jigs with 2/0 hooks. I used to use beau mac jigs, and I've actually broken those hooks on fish before. They seem to be more brittle in my experience.

yeah I wasusing a fish doctor jig and my fish just spit the hook, no bent hook or anything. The fish must be going to school on how to shake hook off and disapopoint anglers. Nice fish slayer, done slaying the springer now on the summer runs, nice.

If you feel like you got a weak set the first time, reel down on 'em and hit 'em again just to drive it in past the barb. They have jaws!

I lost 2 steelhead on the cascade with a maxi jig and landed my one with a aero jig. I really like those aero jigs, last year I only lost one of 15 hooked using an aero jig.

yep, i love the beau mac jigs, theyre like super strong hooks, i love their color combos, and i watched in clear water as fish passed up eggs, other jigs and shrimp to take my favorite Beau Mac jig color, ,out of the 86 steelhead i caught on the cascade this winter, the jig fish were 95% on the pink/purple with pink head beau mac jig. NOT the pro series, those hooks sucks

nates right, sometimes, no matter what gear you use, your just gonna have a day like that, its if you REPEAT the bad luck that it might have something to do with your gear and not just luck...

Remember Nate, on our secret peninsula river, where we landed all our fish at first, then the last half of the day when we found all those fish upstream, we crackered like 8 steelhead between us in a row? WOW it went from 100% to 0% and we changed nothing!! That was sure weird, but it happens'

Yea, that really was a frustrating day. I was tired, and slow by that point, so that may have something to do with it, but it happens.
