OK, the Silver/Coho season is heating up. I've been fishing Puget Sound with a boat since I moved to Seattle in 1980. But the last 3 or 4 Falls have been the best for Silvers since I moved here. Last week, my friend and I got 4 Silvers and 4 Pinks and were done by 9AM. Same thing yesterday in the fog, and I'll be there tomorrow. Pretty hard to beat the Shipwreck, Picnic Pt area all the way sou...

What a week of wild weather! I was glad I wasn’t planning to be on the water much. I am sure it cancelled a lot of plans for anglers. The rivers are now settling down and clearing, and there are some terrific opportunities for anglers as we move further into the month of September. We had our final meeting prior to the Wenatchee River Salmon Festival, which is Saturday, September 21st , an...

I can’t believe its September already. Summer sure flew by. It was a great season but it’s time to think ahead about what’s coming up next. That’s the great thing about Central Washington. We have four distinct seasons and each one has something special about it. Eric Granstrom and I jumped on board with two clients of Shane Magnuson’s the other day, and captured the action for a futu...

Okay so I promised my better half that I would slow down a bit in September, although I am still trying to figure out what happened to August. I have been putting on a lot of miles on the old angling rig whether it is pulling my boat the Pelican to a new lake or just driving to meet someone at o’dark thirty to get in some salmon angling. It is definitely taking its toll on these old bones of mine....

In my last article I had mentioned that I had to hit the rack so I could be on the road by 1:30am. This was a salmon trip with friends, Bruce & Dionne Warren, and my old friend Steve Buckner. We were meeting up at the Deep River Boat Launch at 0-dark thirty, reason being is that the parking area is very limited and it is just a short run to the Astoria Bridge. This is one of those rare trips f...

Another year has come and gone for me as I celebrated my birthday with a nice afternoon nap. Yes that’s right life in the fast lane. I remember the days when I would wake up and take inventory of my body to make sure all my parts were still there and everything was still in working order. Now days my parts all let me know they are still there and sometimes they all function together. To be quite h...

It’s amazing. Summer is almost gone. Pretty soon it will be Labor Day Weekend and the kids will be back in school and we’ll be rolling into fall. I am not ready to give up on summer yet, though. There will be plenty of warm weather ahead and I am going to take advantage of it and get out on the water. There is still some great fishing happening on the Columbia River. I made another trip ...

The sockeye season on Lake Wenatchee has ended, but the Chinook season on the upper Columbia continues. Fishing has improved for anglers fishing on the Columbia. This is the time of year that good catches can be made even above the Brewster Pool. Rollie Schmitten, who lives on Lake Wenatchee, invited me out for my final trip last week, and although we only had a couple of hours available, w...

The sockeye fishery on Lake Wenatchee has provided a lot of anglers a ton of fun over the past couple of weeks. Pressure has been lighter than in past years, but people have had terrific success in taking these prized fish. The sockeye have been large, much bigger than those running up the Columbia, and it appears that this season may be nearing its end. According to Travis Maitland with th...

Now I know I said I was taking a few weeks off get in some rest and work on that honey-do list, I did get a couple of the biggies on the list taken care of. My thoughts were this effort would put me back in good standing around the house and I will fit the rest of them in with my daily routine. The opportunity came up for me to hit Lake Tapps with Guide Todd Reis of Reis’s Extreme Musky Guide Serv...

This was a big fishing week here in Central Washington, and I got to enjoy a lot of it. The Budweiser-Lowrance King Salmon Derby in Brewster came off in spectacular fashion. I got in on the sockeye fishing at Lake Wenatchee, and caught sockeye in the Brewster Pool prior to the derby. I even got to spend a couple hours casting a fly to rainbow on the Icicle. You just have to love August in our...
