Fish Dawg and I have been talking for a while about getting him on to the kokes at Roosevelt. We finally set a date for him to come over from the Maple Valley area and try some Eastern Washington winter fishing. I picked him up at 7:00 AM in Wilbur, boy was he excited to get going! The weather forecast was for high winds on Saturday and it blew all night Friday. Got to the Spring Canyon launch about 7:45 and headed out towards the other boats that were fishing out in the middle. The first rod hadn't been in 5 minutes when we got the first kokanee....yahoo this is going to be great!!

I trolled a little farther and turned around and followed our track back to the area where we got the first fish trolling cross lake in the middle. The rod that got the first fish went off and Bryan started bringing it in, it wasn't long and the fish was gone. We stood there watching a fish jump back where our lead core line had been. Wait a minute that's a fish on the other lead core...Bryan picks up that one and it's fish on. All of the sudden the downrigger starts bouncing and I grab that one; wow a triple play. I landed mine first by myself and managed to get it out of the net in time to land Bryan's fish. High fives for sure.

We now had only one koke to catch for the limit of four wild kokanee and it didn't take long for Bryan to get his last one. They really liked the custom orange bead spinner rig Bryan had created. We switched over to rainbow gear and caught the first rainbow right away. We trolled on down the lake and caught another beautiful bow on a black and orange fly. Then no more bowes....really, I'm spoiled and can always catch bowes.

Bryan wanted to see some more of the majestic beauty of Lake Roosevelt so we ran up to the mouth of the Sanpoil and put the lines in looking for rainbows. Sonared a bunch of fish but never hooked another one the rest of the day. Finished with four beautiful kokane and two really nice rainbows.

What a great time we had; it's always fun to fish with the Fish Dawg!

Tight lines everybody - Alan

PS Sorry about no pics...no luck downloading them. Maybe fish dawg will post them

Almost forgot the wind had all but stopped by the time we got on the water. We were done with the kokanee by 9:30.

Thanks for a fantastic first trip to Roosevelt, Alan!

What a beautiful place and amazing fishery...bomber kokanee for sure!!

I may have to plan a day out there when I'm at Sun Lakes for Memorial Day weekend. Alas, so many fish, so little time...

Good Luck and Tight Lines

Great report Alan, miss seeing pics though. I'm happy catching came through for you and Fish Dawg. Feedback I'm getting is good one day but not the next. No matter, great place to be this time of year - fish or no fish. :-)

I usually take my "real" camera and download pics to my computer. The pics came from Fish Dawg as zip files and I could look at them but couldn't figure out how to get them to a picture file on my computer. Old age...hope not! Maybe?

Unzip to a new folder. Should be able to add them easily after that. :-)
