With Chinook closing in area 9 Sunday night, my father, sister and I decided to fish the beaches of western Whidbey Island with a goal of Chinook but the expectations of Silvers or Pinks. We arrived at Fort Casey State Park and threw the first lure in 2 hours before high tide (around 1PM). We were hopeful we would catch something since we were not alone fishing on the beach and several boats were battling just off shore at the point. Unfortunately after two hours of fishing, the only thing caught was a 5" lingcod by my sister. The entire time we were there, we didn't see one fish jump or landed by a beach fisher or even a boat.

After two hours we packed up and drove over to Drift Wood Beach (as a local called it) in Admiralty Bay to check out the action. Again the beaches were full of fisherman with a few boats off the beach, but after watching for about 10 minutes, again we didn't see one fish landed by a person on the beach or boat.

Leading up to Sunday we heard that the beaches were pretty hot for pinks. Not sure if the action was dead because of the weather change (dark clouds all day, but no rain) or the fish have already moved down the island more. Either way, it was nice to fish with my father and get out of Seattle for the day.

We also checked that side in the morning and got only two pinks. Went on the opposite side to Point no Point and got limits in couple hours.
