My Dad and I tried Rapjohn Lake for opening day again. We were not disappointed. We did not get there for the early rush of anglers, but arrived on the lake after 7:00am. We headed out to the north side of the lake and we saw a few other people catching fish. We picked out a spot to drop anchor. We fished with a few different colors of Powerbait throughout the morning. We fished for about 20 minutes before we caught our first fish, a nice and fat 17" planter. It only took 3 hours for us to catch our limit of 10 fish. The smallest was 15" and the largest was 18". Since all the fish were such good size, we thought all were triploids. When we got back to the boat launch we talked to the Fisheries Biologist doing fish counts. He said that if the fish had a clipped adipose fin then it was a triploid, otherwise it was from hatchery stock. So when we cleaned the fish we observed that 6 were triploids and 4 were from hatchery stock.
