Got out on Silver yesterday after coming back from fishing Moses lake over the weekend. Went out at about 2:00 and headed for the south end of the lake ( I hear that's where the bass are). So I fished a few of the docks there, got one small bass and then fished the large open weedy areas with no luck.

Then about 4:00 I headed back towards the north end, stopping in that little cove near just south east of Ruby's. I was using a Chartreuse and blue spinner bait fishing some submerged logs for bass. When I was bringing the spinner in close to the boat it looked like there was a bunch of weeds floating in the water behind my spinner, no surprise right? Well with the wind on the water it was kind of hard to see but when I pulled the spinner from the water I got a very good look at about a 28-30" TIGER as he bolted for the depths. That was my first Musky sighting (yes I'm new to the lake) so I was kind of excited. I was also glad he didn't take it, I was fishing pretty light, I think about 8-10 lb test. So I switched poles and tried but never saw him again.

After that I fished from Ruby's towards the launch. Lost a nice bass just west of Ruby's fishing the same spinner bait.

Oh you're doomed now. That's how it starts, one fallow and then before you know it you've bought half of Rollie and Helen's musky catalog. There goes the credit cards! Spinnerbaits are great for muskies, good work. Now you've found one and know where to visit him on the next trip. As it gets warmer he'll move deeper into the middle of the cove and then out twards the main lake. Keep at it.

My tackle box is all bass and salmon gear right now, the musky gear is definately coming! lol so I know a lot of bass lures will work for musky, I've heard of people catching them on spinner baits, buzz baits, crank baits etc. Out of the typical bass stuff what would you suggest tossing out there to increase my chances of finding mr musky again?

You named two of the top three I would toss. Throw the lure that will work the depth of water your in the most effectively. I am tossing firetiger crankbaits over 6 -10 ft. of water. Black, white and yellow spinnerbaits up shallow. Firetiger, perch and rainbow swimbaits in 2 - 6 ft. of water. That sort of stuff. I like walk the dog style top waters in firetiger and all black too. The shallow area north and south have been my best bet for topwaters. But I don't throw them a lot comaped to swimbaits. If I'm tossing a bass lure, it will be on the big end for bass. You want to get noticed by mr. muskie and finesse baits generally won't do it in the green water out there. 4 feet and deeper has been producing most of my muskies this year in weeds, weeds, weeds!!!
