I set out to deep lake with my Creek Co. Pontoon boat and my 2 Lamiglass poles with Pflueger and Shimano reels at about 5 pm on Thursday. The Lake is as clear as I remember it from when I was a kid. Some people at the doc told me that although there were LMB all through this lake that the best place was all the way at the end in this large pool filled with logs. So 10 min. later I arrive there on my boat and about 100 yards short of the log jam was a submerged stump. As I looked through my glasses I could see at least 5 5lbers or more. I through Hula grubs, Power lizards and 3 different pig and jigs. All looked and smelled, but just didn't commit. I could see the cold front coming in so I figured that was it. I fished the log jam and only saw about a million fry in there oh ya and a fat guy with just some bald fat guy with a speedo and hiking boots walking the trail (It was entertaining). I moved over to some logs down the shore line and was following a couple fish when a whale of a fish swam under my pontoon boat. It was probably the biggest Largemouth I had ever seen. At the time I had a Yamamoto 5" Hulagrub on a 2/0 offset shank hook weedless and weightless and I threw it over in his direction. He was just sitting in the water looking at me and that dam lure landed right on his head and bounced off and he didn't even move! I saw him slowly slide underneath a brush pile as if to say "Not today brother....I'm big cause I'm smart!" I paddled home without a single successful hookup and I didn't care.....seeing that big guy made the trip far worth the trip.
Deep lake is a very secluded quiet lake that is not filled with screaming kids and jet skis. Its a motor free lake and its very clear. It is full of structure for all the species there and has an excellent trout and Kokkanee population. I will return to this lake with little doubt. Its great because except for the park there is very little shoreline fishing and except for the park there is Nobody there.
Thanks for listening
Ryan

I am glad to see someone post about Deep Lake, I grew up out in that area and used to fish the dock for trout all the time with my buddies. I have not been out there in years, but heard that there are a lot of Bass out there and since have become a Bass fisherman.

I will definitely have to make it out to my old stomping ground with my raft for an attempt at some of those Big Guys that you were mentioning. Thanks for the post, makes me feel better about trying to drive out that far.

It is a great little bass lake that is not fished much because of the short carry in launch site. It is on my list as successfully fished. I saw several big boys but my personal lake record is a 17 inch, 3 pound, 2 ouncer caught on a floating Rapala.

To Rutt. I actually am not the pastor Ryan Meeks........although alot of people ask me that. I was there at the lake last night with my dogs just swimming and I saw probably 100 trout jumping out in the middle of the lake. No one at all at this lake....I love it!
