Decided to check out beaver lake, since it is a few miles from my house and easy to get to. Inflated the raft, floated around for a bit. No fish. Talked to some of the other fishermen around, including somebody that lives on the lake. Nobody had caught anything except one woman bottom fishing from shore using nightcrawlers. she had a decent size trout. saw some kids catching very small fish, but other than that nothing. The highlight of the day was when a bald eagle swooped in no further than 30 feet from me and snagged a fish. Spoke with somebody that lives on the lake, he said there are decent size smallies in the lake, but you are most likely to catch them shortly after they stock the lake, probably due to more competition. All in all was a nice day on the lake, despite no fish. i will go back, but ONLY because it is so close.

That's the rumor. I certainly have not verified it, as I couldn't manage to catch a trout, let alone a smallie.

I haven't fished Beaver Lake for a few years but I have caught smallmouth bass in it. Looking back at my bass records, I see that I caught a 14 1/2 inch smallie there on July 4, 1985. That fish hit a floating Rapala and was released.
