Put the pontoon in at 7:00 in the morning. Got into the car to move it to parking lot and nothing...dead battery. Called a friend just a few miles away for a jump. In the 15 minutes til he arrived I watched dozens of trout rise to a hatch of tiny, olive midges. It's gonna be a good morning, I thought. 20 minutes and one jump start later, I was on the water. Surface temp read 75 with a light wind from the south. Water was crystal clear. Trout were rising everywhere, actively feeding on those midges, some of which lazily porpoised within 10 feet of the boat, which I could easily identify as browns. Not having my chironomids with me, I stuck with my original plan of dragging/stripping leeches. In the next 3 hours an olive leech got the most attention, with a half dozen good strikes yielding three hook-ups with good trout, all of which came unbuttoned. Other patterns I tried got only bumps and taps. I was saved from a total skunk by a good 12" crappie that inhaled that olive leech, not the first crappie I've gotten at Medical, but the first one I've gotten on a leech! Left the water and 10:30....thankfully, the Jeep started this time!
