It was a gorgeous day with almost no wind the sun looking down the lake. My fishing buddy and I hit the lake around 10 am and surprised to see about 15 flyfishermen on the lake already. Based on our past experience, most of flyfishermen prefer Lenice over Nunnully, but not today. Fishing must be good, right? What was interesting was to see more trolling fishermen than chironomid fishermen today for some reasons. All chironomid fishermen were fishing shallow areas on the west side of the lake. I could not tell how they were doing, but trollers were doing okay. Trollers along the shore line were not catching any in the morning, but deep water trollers were picking up a few here and there. In the afternoon from noon to 2 pm fishing got better and trollers were picking up a few all over the lake, including shallow areas along the shore line.

My fishing buddy and I are trollers. My buddy likes shallow areas and I normally fish deep water. I trolled my usual 12-3X olive woolly bugger through the deepest part of the lake all day. It was reasonably productive day for me. Seven bows ranging 13" to 20" in 4 hours, all with one olive woolly bugger, satisfied my need. My fishing buddy spent first three hours in figuring out what may work and what may not, but he ended up catching a few healthy bows in the last one hour. His patience was paid off after all. For both of us, fishing in cold October and November is not about how many fish we catch, but rather it is just about enjoying our outing. We came out and got fish. What else do we need in this fine last Saturday in October?

One trolling fisherman said that he caught 8 bows with his woolly bugger and red chironomid dropper. He sounded as he was the fishing champion of the lake. Good for him. I also saw that another troller was catching quite a few almost one every 30 minutes or so. Both seemed to catch in deep areas. It was wonderful to see them doing well even though I did not know them at all. Nice day and good fishing!
