Four days until Halloween and the frost is definitely on the pumpkin. It was 26 degrees this morning at 6:30. After it warmed up a bit, I met Dave and Mike on the lake around noon. With clear skies, a slight north breeze, it turned out to be a beautiful fall day. The surface and bottom temperatures of the water were equal at 50 degrees.
After working the area from the launch south to the shallows, we decided to try the north end. That proved to be more effective. We all caught several fish, ranging from 8" up to 18". Most of them were north of the rock slide and on the west side.
Green was the productive color, a "six pack" and a peacock colored Carey were the best choices. A friend of mine was on the lake with his two grandchildren, trolling with "triple teasers" and caught and released several nice rainbows in the 12"-17" range. It was fun watching the youngsters (3 & 7) catching fish while grandpa cheered them on.
Although Amber will be open for about another month, I'm calling this season to a close, anxiously waiting for the spring of '08.
