went fishing for cutts from 1pm to 3pm. hooked 5, released 2 that both measured around I'd say 17," and kept a 21," 18" and 15." used spoons this time rather than worms. the fish are there, just gotta put in the time required to catch them. strong wind blowing from the wsw at 15 the whole time. glad to be off the water with my fish. the two released made it back without any problem to spawn another time.

Yeah I can be stopped...it's called the wind/weather. Also, these fish are fickle, one day the bite is on, the next it can be off. I don't take anything for granted.

I forgot to mention the water temp had warmed from three days prior from 44.5F to 45.9F.

That fish on the left is the coolest trout i have ever seen.

Thanks JT26. It was a "lake cutt" that had just spawned out. There were two big eggs left-over that the female fish could not excrete. This is the second fish of this size this year (long and skinny). My other fish went 23" long and was 3.8 pounds. This fish was 3 pounds.

thanks kevinb. i'm looking for someone to go out with me on saturday from 8 to 6. if anyone is interested, or this fits their "time frame" simply drop me a pm. i'm willing to teach anyone wanting to learn the fishery; it takes patience, stealth, and skill. if you got what it takes, you'll take home so gorgeous meat, and awesome smoked fish. look forward to hearing from some of you via pm. saturday is the 22nd of march, 2008.

Sounds like some great action! Although I would love to get out and exchange some mutual fish info, this weekend doesn' work. But, how about giving me a call and let's chat. I've noticed that they taste about the same as quality bows. They are superior in taste to bows you catch in small area lakes like Pine and Beaver. These trout taste very good - kind of like a mix between a salmon and trout - if that at all makes any sense...lol.

yes these trout taste way better then any trout from pine or beaver lake as i was lucky enough to go out with kutt killa and these trout tasted amazing

sounds like i need to try and get one of these cutts and try them out on the grill!! Do you think that the taste is due to the different bait that is in washington vs what they would eat in a smaller lake like pine??

The hatchery fish at Pine, especially recently planted ones, do not taste good. White mushy meat.

Holdover trout from Pine and Beaver will taste better and have pink meat, since they've been ingesting more carotene in their diet (from the natural foods) for more than a year.

The cutts on Lake WA are all native, and so they've been eating natural foods all their lives. The quality in taste is also attributable to their fat content. The closer they get to spawning, the less fat reserves, since that fat has been used to develop eggs. Bottom line: the further away from spawning stage, the better the quality of meat.

I have found few trout that rival the taste of big fat LK WA cutthroat.

I'd have to agree 100% with Shad_Eating_Grin. You gotta taste the LW cutts to truly treasure these fish...(Note: many fish are now re-entering the lake - they just finished spawning some of them -- they left behind some eggs in their tummies).

My favorite trout would have to be small 111-12in cuttbows from 35-40 water mmmmmmmmmmmmm.


You put some butter and lemon on those and you got yourself a meal!!!!

you'll have to get out bigbowkes, they taste like salmon smoked...i even like it fresh. it's amazing.
