Went to Battleground on Sunday, and it was as good as advertised! We got on the water at about 8:30. Started slow, we saw a guy just killing them in ones spot, and actually, he was killing them every where he went! I usually troll close to the bank on most lakes, but all the action here was straight down the middle. I was hoping to catch one of those steel head they put in there, but we just caught stockers. When we were pulling out I was casting from my boat at the launch watching schools of fish follow my lure, and wouldn't you know it, of those steelheads came swimmin' by! I quickly threw my lure at him, but he just laughed at me and kept it movin! It was a good day though, we both limited and I would've rated it a 5 but I had technical difficulties with my battery.

Oh yeah, my stepdad killed em all day on a triple teaser, I used everything from a hot shot to a dick nites silver and gold. We also saw a couple of guys who caught about 40 fish using those berkley power worms, they were trolling them. When I asked what they were using, they lied and said hot shots and rooster tails, they probably knew they were breaking the rules or didn't want to divulge the info......

they never put steelhead in here, but they did put the hatcheries broodstock which are large but not steelhead.

Really, cuz I swore I read in the regs that there were steelies put in there, plus some other guy told me about them, oh yeah, there is a picture of guy holding a steelhead in the pics that flash on the home screen and it says he caught it at Battleground. But I trust you, you know this lake, I'm just going off what I thought I saw...LOL

they put steelhead in this lake last year i beleive i think last january. but any steelhead from that stocking (only about 100) are either caught or died naturally, usually the stocked steelhead only last a couple months with some lingering for a bit longer. they get the steelhead from the hatcheries on the rivers after the steelys return to the hatchery and they take the eggs and sperm then they either replace them downstream for people to catch or put them in lakes. so they are near the end of their life cycle anyway, usually the natives will go back and fourth from the rivers to spawn a couple times but the hatchery steelhead usually make one or two trips that why most HUGE steelhead caught are native.

Hey Rob,
I'm thinking you might have seen one of the trips some of them get pretty chrome and look like steely's from above the water but they haven't stocked the lake with those great steely's since last year... According to the WDFW anyways. They did stock a grip of the trips though. Not saying that 100% for sure that it wasn't a steel but it was probably just a nice fat triploid.
